not a good feeling

we had a client's 22 year old cat die while in our care. he freaked out. said a lot of swear words and such. 2 weeks later came back in with a new cat and apologized.

i've been looking for it with pneumonia in the cold for 2.5 hours. we've seen it (we = my dad, bro and i) so many times and gotten close but then she just BOLTS the other way.

my dad made me come inside. plus i was hysterically crying because i couldn't breathe and this is all my fault because i wanted to petsit the dog and they did it for me because they knew i was sick and knew it would make me feel better and then my brother was taking out the trash and it just BOLTED out of our door.

old cat dying isn't the same as losing the animal

^ sounds like it is your brothers fault not yours

i wouldn't feel good about either situation regardless of circumstance. no matter how it gets said, "your pet is gone" is not easy to say,

good luck!

if gone more than 12 hours start looking at the dog's house. had that happen at the first kennel i worked at, manager was walking a dog and fell and broke her leg, the dog took off, three days later showed up at home.

also had a family take a trip to tennessee and lose the dog, weeks later it showed up at the vet in cary!

def will tomorrow!!

omg we took treats and she was close enough to grab like 4 times but everytime one of us tried she bolted god it was horrible.

the worst part is it is my dad's gfs dog and like everyone on here prob knows cause i air my dirty business (and whine) my mom died in april and my dad started dating in july and i was like so not okay with it. and recently i had to meet the woman he's been dating for 3 months who everyone just LOVES but obviously i was still mad about it

and its not like i'm ok with it but we were making strides and i KNOW the reason she let us keep the dog is because i wanted to and i'm sick so she was trying to make a nice gesture and now we lost it and she's going to hate us and hate my dad and my dad has been like a different person since he's been with her like he was all depressed when my mom was sick and after she died (duh) and we went through a really rough patch and we were just back on track like as of a week ago and now she's going to hate them and they're going to break up and everything is ruined and i feel like it is all my fault

hmmm yea... dogs can sense a person's energy.... that's probably why it keeps running away.

you'll have to get a hold of yourself for the dog's sake.

also... try running away from it once it gets close. turn it into a fun game that the dog wants to play.

doggie doesn't want to get in trouble and doesn't want to get nabbed... but doggie loves to play!

well i don't know what i'm supposed to do. i never chased it i just sat down and held out a treat and she came up and i reached out to pet her and she ran! i wasn't upset like this until we couldn't find her anymore.

like when she was being "spotted" around our neighbors yard i was like, we're eventually going to get her. but now we haven't seen her in an hour and a half

^ yea. its just so freaking hard to see out now and we haven't seen her in forever

she has tags

luckily so hopefully someone wouldn't just take her to the shelter with the tag on

plus she's FROM the shelter so she should be microchipped too

i'm worried about cars/her being old

^ thanks. i NEED positive outlook

for a second i almost started to believe in god because i said "please god let us find her" and we found her alright. like 7 times. ugh why didn't i ask to CATCH HER. dammit!

exactly. and i know wake county microchips. how old is that technology been widespread (like in shelters)? my cat is 4 and they microchipped when i got her and this dog is like 10 but she was adopted about 5 - 6 years ago. do you think that is pre microchipping?!

Does the dog like car rides? When our old dog used to get loose we could usually get her back by getting in the car, driving slowly down the road, and then stopping and opening the door. She'd hop right on in.

oh we tried that. we tried with several different cars. no luck.

she likes car rides i think i don't know i just met her tonight for like 5 seconds until she bolted. ahhhh

and i'm scared my dad is going to stress out and like have a stroke and he was like trampling through the woods and like his coordination isn't like 100% he was like stumbling on rocks.

ugh this is the worst for so many reasons

its been around awhile. but even if she isn't, she has tags. if she is at a shelter they will do everything possible to get in contact with whoever's info is on the tags.

ok. cause the owner isn't leaving town until tomorrow afternoon. we just got her tonight cause it would be easier cause my dad saw her tonight for shag lessons and he just picked the dog up after. i'm just scared if they find her and she's already out of town like they'll call her house and she won't be there. though my cell number is on my animals tags/microchips so maybe hers is too.

Sorry, kadwhackle. Just leave the door open and let her come in on her own. She'll get tired of not seeing people and not having food. Dog will come back, they almost always do.

Hope you feel better too, walking pneumonia sucks!

she is probably just lurking out in the neighborhood. control your voice, and call for it in a happy and relaxed tone.

well that's why you should NEVER punish a dog or give them anything but love and treats after an episode like this.

I had to chase a cat through a neighborhood and woods once. There were lots of tears that weren't my own and we failed miserably at catching it.

It finally came home and once it became an inside cat I woke up many a morning with cuts and scratches from said cats claws.

I hate cats.

just let her know how bad you feel about it, and if she knows you're sincere then it will actually bring you closer, then right as you hug the dog will come home and the movie will end

yea well the problem is she has only been here once before so i don't think she is familiar with the neighborhood but i did put hot food and water out. and i like was kinda loud about doing it incase she was hiding in the woods. so she'd know it was there and could come out after we went inside.

but i just don't know if she will be able to get back to our house. if she knew where she was (like if ishe was familiar with this neighborhood) we probably wouldn't have chased her for so long. cause when my dog ran away she'd always come back. we worried a little about cars and stuff.

i think the worst part is it is someone ELSE'S dog like - at least if it was our dog then oh well it is our dog. but now we have to tell someone else we lost their dog.

^ lol. that might be your only redeeming post ever

man that sucks, and i definitely know how you feel

everytime, i swear EVERYTIME, when i started watching my sister-in-law's dog when she was young she would bolt out the door at the earliest opportunity (escape artist like whoa). I'd spend the next 2.5-4 hours chasing her down only for her to bolt when i got close. as she got older it's been less and less, but she'll still escape occasionally...and man is she quick still and now she's losing her hearing, so when she does bolt she can't hear you call her as well.

good luck

don't fret too much though...you'll get her/she'll come back.
