The best way to characterize what I'm doing currently is "machine learning / algorithms research aimed at discovering causal cascades/relations in the brain, using fMRI data". Pretty specific, I know, but the techniques can be applied to other problems too. fMRI time-series just have particular peculiarities that makes analysis tough (so do brains).

The topic of my thesis was conversational implicature, and was in formal/computational linguistics. It was an application of mathematical logic and computer science to problems in natural language (I'm a computer scientist/logician/mathematician by trade; sometimes I work on strange things).

And before anybody asks yes I get paid to do this, I'm no longer a graduate student.

I spend a lot of time cooking with my friends. Most of my friends live in the same neighborhood as me (not uncommon in Pittsburgh), so we see each other frequently and form a commune of sorts.

I'm really into music, especially hip hop. I spend an appreciable amount of time listening to hip hop.
