Honestly, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds.

The mashed turnips they serve it with are pretty gross though, it's hard to imagine people having to eat that crap all the time in the middle ages.

^^^ Yeah I had it in Edinburgh in 2001, I actually thought it was good, although nobody else in my group did (It was mostly girls though)

They served it with mashed potatoes, mashed turnips, and a glass of scotch (even though I was about to turn 17 at the time, and some of the people there were younger than I was).

They also recited a poem before they cut it that was apparently in english, but I didn't understand a word of it.

Johnston Clan represent! Apparently our clan were "borderers" that lived on the border of Scotland and England. They had pretty shitty farmland so resorted to raiding both countries to steal crops and meat. They were excellent horseman b/c of this and rode as cavalry for Scotland and sometimes the English depending on who paid better.
