First Im hearing of it. Im surprised no one does it. Yes I know crowd control issues but they do it at RBC fine and its pure $$$. Which I know athletics depts here love.

I think it would decrease the amount of drunken antics.

As long as they can get some alcohol fix at the games to keep their buzz from pregame, people are less likely to sneak in hard liquor.

Most people don't just get drunk at the games...its a 5 hour build up...so giving people beer instead of vodka to maintain their cheery dispositions would effectively lower the number of people getting black out drunk.

There will still always be that dumbass freshman who is passed out by the second quarter, but I think this is a good move in the big picture.

^ I pretty much agree with that. Always gotta buck that last big dose of liquor before walking through the gates and then it's airplane bottles mixed with Coca Cola for the next couple of hours. Leads to a pretty big swing in the buzz you've been maintaining all morning. I would get far less drunk off $7 beers.

^^ that, and people would be less inclined to see how faced they can get in the parking lot and still make it into the game under their own power.

Obviously it will be the fault of the one $12 Goose and Cranberry he got at the game and not the fifth of Aristocrat he pounded in the parking lot

I understand that any accidents will be blamed on the new rule, but its akin to blaming McDonald's for your obesity...everyone likes to point the finger

^^I'd expect a drunken driver to be the culprit that "ruins it for everyone".

^The way the people in the link talk they'll be serving beer and wine, but no liquor.

that's just an opinion piece. there's been no talk of actually selling booze to the commoners, and for the luxury suites the fat cats have to supply their own booze before the day of the game.

When I went to the Gator Bowl, I had no idea they were selling beer inside the game.

That first beer stand we saw in the game was one of the most glorious sites of the day. Well that and spanking Notre Dame's ass....

It doesn't seem like any of them ever recognize the irony of repeatedly bragging about being "classy."

I don't see any problem with this. The only time serving alcohol actually becomes a widespread problem at sporting events is when some minor league baseball team has a $1 beer night or something. The price of stadium booze alone is usually enough of a deterrent to prevent mass inebriation.

They're only talking about serving beer in luxury boxes which NC State already does at both football and basketball games, at the RBC there are two full bars on the club level that serve liquor as well for the entire game it's just not really something that's highly publicized

They should only be allowed to serve wine at UNC games

If they served beer at NCSU games for $7 or whatever it wouldn't affect my behavior at all. I'll be damned if I'm gonna buy $7 beers inside when I can get drunk off a $9 12 pack tailgating beforehand. I'm not poor, but I am somewhat strange - I like my money.

This is new? NC State must be full of innovators then

I, too, thought the no alcohol rule was an ACC policy... however, it also depends on who owns the property. As for NCSU football, no alcohol in the stadium because it is university owned. Alcohol is allowed in Vaughn Towers because it is Wolfpack club owned; however, I don't believe it is sold/served as it must be self-acquired & served. As for basketball, alcohol is sold up until 30 minutes prior to tip-off then all alcohol sales are done for the day. unless there have been major changes since last year, all of this should be valid.

^they don't sell it in the Club Ledge Lounge section during the game, but they do sell it during the game in the Lexus Champions Club section. Club Ledge Lounge sell end 30 minutes before tip off. I wonder if I purchased 2 (that's the limit per transaction) and my girlfriend purchased 2 if I could just keep them at my seat and drink them during the game?

My seats are in the club ledge lounge. It really came down to whether I wanted to buy expensive beers for 2 hours of basketball or be able to watch tv (they have the rbc cam plus a lot of cable channels).

It'll never happen at State--not while Stafford is here.

I remember reading an article back in the day when the ACC expanded saying Syracuse didn't want into the conference because of the anti-booze rule. So it's not really a rule after all?

I think it would be good to sell beer at games. I'm sure you would hear stories of UNC fans pissing in the stands just like us.
