We've all made the bullshit resolutions and never keep them. How do you plan to go about keeping them?

I think I am going to write up a contract and sign it. Make it feel more official and obligated.

resolutions are retarded. if you want to do something..do it. you dont need a date on the calendar to tell you when to start it

If you want to change something about your life, why would you not start working towards that today? Why set an arbitrary date on which you'll start "trying"? If it's not important enough to begin immediately, then you're probably not going to go through with it anyway. It's just the wrong mindset entirely. People do it all the time. For instance, they'll say "alright, gonna go on a diet on January 1st. But, until then, I'm going to eat as much as humanly possible. You know, to get it in while I still can." The result is people pack on a few pounds, and they already start at a disadvantage.

I just hope that every year I can make the next one better than the last.. 2009 was pretty good other than the last 2-3 weeks.

I just try to fix shit when it pops up. I don't identify a problem with my life and say, "I'll delay that until January 1st". Now I'll procrastinate the hell out of some things, but I really have no intention of ever doing them until I have to.

Gets me in trouble a lot actually

There are different types of resolutions...for example, my resolution is to run 1,000 miles in 2010. I'm not going to start today and say run 1,000 miles through 12/29/2010. It makes sense for it to be something I start on 1/1/2010.

At some point in 2010 I'd like to whip a sword at some people and yell ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

It's been a resolution for almost a decade, but I'm hopeful that I'll make it happen in 2010.

I, too, have this mindset. but if you need help following through with your resolutions, getting your friends or family to support them is always good. for example, when i used to go to the gym I'd always have a few gym buddies so someone else would go with me and help motivate me to workout.

And if you break the contract, are you going to sue yourself in court?

I do a few things:

1) I tell people about the resolution and then get asked about it. If I don't remember then I promptly feel like an idiot when reminded. Shame is a powerful motivator.

2) As far as my athletic goals, I sign up for events far in advance so I don't feel like I wasted the money and start developing the training plans. For example, I am doing my first sprint triathlon of the year in April, so I've already figured out what training I need to do to be ready for it (and what gear I needed to buy for this season).

I also mark out my minutes and my workouts as I complete them, and remind myself progress comes with consistency.

3) I make smaller goals to keep myself on track to a larger goal.

4) Put that shit on a calendar on your desk and mark it with bright colors. Also using Google calendar can help in case you're not next to the first calendar.

well. i need to get healthier - mentally and physically. soooo i'm pretty much holding myself accountable and using the fact that i'm tired of feeling like shit as motivation; HOWEVER my bf and i are doing our own biggest loser challenge. which if you wanna lose weight, i feel like is a good thing to do with a friend or SO because you can motivate each other and keep each other accountable.

its not like the prize is super cool but it is a competition and hopefully we will get ourselves into an exercise regimen. right now our first goal is feb. 14th - we are making plans to eat at the angus barn, whoever ISN'T the biggest loser by that date has to pay for the meal! after that, we'll set another goal like...whoever loses more weight by x date or whoever runs a 5k first, etc. i dunno, we're trying to set baby steps because those are easier to keep - so that will also help with actually keeping the get in shape resolution.

the goal is just to lose weight with a free meal as a motivator and even if i'm the loser, i still win something cause i'll be getting healthier. i think this is better for me instead of making lofty goals like "work out at 5am 6 days a week." i always keep those goals for like..um a week.
