I have a 3 Year old Macbook that seems to have a faulty wireless antenna or airport card. Out of warranty.

It works great in close proximity to any router but quickly loses the signal if I go to another room.

Tested with multiple routers -- all same result.

Anyone ever have antenna trouble with these?

If its anything like the macbook pro's, the antennas are in the lcd bezel. There are two tiny little cables that come from the LCD hinges and connect to the wifi card. I would check to make sure one of them didn't pop off (its possible) before you do anything else.

watch that repair guide to see what I am referring to.

yeah the antennas for every laptop i've messed with all are in the LCD..pretty easy to see if they're connected, though.
