^ AfPak channel is probably 45% of my tweets followed by the Economist at around 25% and the rest fill up the last 30%.

that's the beauty of twitter. you don't have to follow ochocinco if you find his irritating tweets irritating

the same rule generally applies on facebook, but i still get the occasional application request spam from my aunt or something

^^ Well, for who I follow. I mean, sure I'm happy one of my friends just started marathon training and it's neat that someone else's baby is 2 months old but the fact that someone is cold, or that they're happy their dog isn't pissing on the carpet any more . . . I don't really care.

But deep down inside, I'm an impersonal asshole and, while I'll feign some sort of interest because these people are my friends, I'm more interested in the ins and outs of the world at large.


There are perhaps many philosophical points to be made about that attitude, but it is what it is for now.

ya but the only point to twitter for me is to follow people i wouldnt be able to on facebook

so i do enjoy 1 out of every 5 of his tweets, its fun to watch him make a fool out of himself. but the other 80% of nonsense coming from him and everyone else on there is largely annoying. i prefer going on there laughing at the couple funny ones i do see and then moving on. just saying that 150 texts a day from random bozos on twitter would drive me insane

For me, Twitter distills the information without the extraneous noise that clogs Facebook. I'll look at a message, decide if the link bears further investigation and click or not click at my discretion. It beats having to scroll through pages of status updates and mindless commentary.

Only followed by 16, but I know them all. Every once in a while I'll get a follow from some weird/oddball page (I guess they see what I tweeted and then follow me if it pertains to them...I don't know) and I'll just block them, that's too weird for me.
