How do you store yours? Lucky me just came in to a lot, so now the milk crate option seems a little crazy and not very conducive to storage and access. I'm looking at

Anything else you would recommend that's better (or cheaper, or best for the money)?

If you mean the plastic containers they put mail in, that's the same thing as the milk crate option that I'm trying to avoid. 1/5/2010 2:08:23 PM |

I bought some metal shelving on Craigslist for $15 but I've passed capacity for my vinyl so I've been eying these. I love that you can flip through them with much more ease this way.

hmmmm, I like that too. Also like that it's not as tall as the one I'm looking at.
(and nice metal shelf)

I'm pleased with what I got. My brother and I divided it, so he got some I would've liked to have (The Wall for one)...but I got albums he would've liked too so it worked out.
we both wanted, but decided to give Deodato back to my dad.

I keep about 700 of mine in those huge plastic, lidded storage tubs (which are very cheap at Home Depot/Lowe's right now...Xmas clearance)
the 50 or so that are in my monthly rotation are in an under-the-bed storage bin
the 20 that are in my weekly rotation are in a milk crate
the 5 I listen to daily are on my computer desk 1/5/2010 2:46:29 PM |

Thanks Tim, but our closet situation is terrible (ie, full) so a big storage bin/tub isn't an option either...it's why I want to stay away from crates. They're already sitting in tomato/fish/liquor boxes in my living room on the floor.

for ~80 dollar bucks, Costco has those hardcore industrial steel shelving system units
the ones where you slide in the shelves to the vertical pipes
VERY VERY sturdy. my dad used them to store/display his records, his speakers, his turntable, and his water bongs. probably kept 100 on each shelf and they didn't bow or sag at all.

gah, i love the lobster spread! and don't get me started on the bourbon chicken bites. my record is 15 samples in one visit (about 5 different trips to the lobster spread table)

IKEA's bookshelves are generally the perfect size for LPs. We have the one at that link and it is great. Pretty sure their other shelves such as http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60156282 would work too, but you should double check. 1/5/2010 3:54:27 PM |

I use a pair of bookshelves I got at American Way. They don't match, and it took me about six weeks to finally find both of them, but they were $15 each and work great. 1/5/2010 4:04:34 PM |

My current house happens to have a big sturdy built-in bookcase, so my records are on that.
Before that they were either in plastic milkcrates or cheap-ass Target shelves that could barely support them. 1/5/2010 4:35:39 PM |

I bought one of the 4 cube wooden storage things from AC Moore, stained it green, turned it on its side and installed some 8 inch lengths of pipe as legs. Kinda hard to see in this photo but it works perfectly and looks pretty nice. Sturdy, too.

Tim, I just bought my brother Low End Theory for christmas and it was $22 at Schoolkids...don't remember any other $$
leaning towards the IKEA at this point. plan is to dump these smaller shelves, get the IKEA and use most of the cubes for the vinyl and the rest for other. looking at a version of the EXPEDIT that has various sections http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10147737 but may still go with the http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50103086
We really like yours Ronny...if we had a room situation like yours where we wouldn't lose height space by going with a low long piece, we'd probably mirror yours (or tip the EXPEDIT sideways).
Thanks for all of your help
