you should get all the network channels. Put your address here and point it in the right direction http://antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx
this is assuming you have a digital tuner in your TV (all TVs after i think 2006 have them and many before then do too). And I hope you didn't spend extra money on something touted as an "HDTV antenna". Any directional VHF antenna will work fine, and even normal bunny ears are find in most cities. 1/7/2010 8:44:58 PM |

You don't need an hd antenna. Just get the front (UHF) part off of one of these old antennas:
Mount it on a pole if you can or just run it in your attic. Attach an amplifier as close to the antenna as possible. The strongest towers are south east of raleigh. PBS is towards chapel hill. 1/7/2010 9:10:00 PM |

I built a variation of a Hoverman antenna...http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/01/maker_workshop_dtv_antenna_steadyca.html <= this is a link to a basic model that you can build yourself. I guarantee it will outperform any of the "HD antennas" you can get in stores like wal-mart. But what I did was build two of these and link them together into one big array. I'm watching the BCS championship on ABC right now crystal clear. I live in Walnut Creek. I get all the channels (digital) that antennaweb.org lists available for the 27606 zip. I will post pics of the antenna once camera charges if interested. 1/7/2010 9:27:51 PM |

I get these channels:
4.1 4.2 4.3 all PBS
5.1 5.2 CBS
11.1 11.2 11.3 ABC (sometimes, gotta move shit around and stand in awkward positions tho)
17.3 17.4 17.5 NBC
22.1 WLFL
28.1 WRDC
40.1 40.2 UNIVISION
50.1 50.2 FOX
basically I just move shit around when I cant get signal 1/7/2010 9:51:34 PM |

moving it around is the best option
i've got tvs in my living room and bedroom both using different hd antennas....oddly enough the living room get nbc and fox....the bedroom gets abc and cbs.
fiddling with it i have around 15 channels (networks, pbs, ion, wgn, etc.) 1/7/2010 9:58:19 PM |

is it indoor or outdoor? where do you have it located? It's best if you can put it near a window facing the direction of the tower you want to pick up.. however depending on where you live shielding may not be that big of a deal. When I lived in the fraternity house I would get perfect signal beside the window but if you moved it 4 feet away (along the wall) i'd all but lose it. 1/7/2010 10:23:24 PM |

I never have to move the antenna, and if you build it well, it almost looks like some sort of weird art. Oh and it picks up ION which is 37 miles away from my location. Build one! it's a bunch of coat hangers and wood. 1/7/2010 10:33:25 PM |

Sure, I wouldn't mind making a guide for what I did. The link I posted above though has a detailed .pdf outlining dimensions, assembly, and necessary parts for building the basic antenna which works great anyway. I'll get something up here in a few days or something though. 1/8/2010 12:04:59 AM |

I use one in Raleigh, off Gorman Street, barely a few miles from Cary. Cheap little indoor thing. Works decent, gets most local networks perfectly fine... though we did end up wrapping a sheet of tinfoil around the top of it, which helps.
The only ones that tend to be scattered sometimes are 4.1-4.3

it's indoor, next to a window. i used that antennaweb site to position it for the channel i wanted, and i got nothing.

I mean, I'm just saying ya I got lucky a while back and had free cable tv because of a screw up in their system. I'm not saying it won't work. I'm just saying in general, one shouldn't expect that because of a Road Runner subscription. I have RR now. Hulu.com is awesome isn't it?

Well, the fact that it's worked for me on more than one occasion and when I know I've had a new TWC filter put on my house, at least, the network channels you can get over broadcast. The internet comes over the lines at a higher frequency range, and that of course comes along with the lower frequency range cable. Often times they do put filters on, but those filters don't simply block out every lower frequency range, they're designed to keep the lower network cable channels non-filtered. I just figured if the guy was getting no channels at all on his TV, might be worth at least trying to hook the coax up to the wall. Most people never even think to try.
Did hulu ever start charging for content? I thought they were going to sometime soon? 1/8/2010 9:17:09 AM |
