The series needs a reboot, but it is far too soon. I wouldn't mind a really dark/gritty Venom appearance, especially since no one has bothered to include him in a Spider-man movie yet. Yeah, I know what I said.
I'm not sure how they would even introduce the Venom character. Secret Wars is out, maybe the Ultimate Universe back story? Even then I'm not sure you could introduce Venom in the first movie if the reboot ends up being yet another origin story. 1/12/2010 7:40:53 AM |

I heard they forced Rami to put Venom in the 3rd movie and he was pretty pissed about it. They tried to throw way to much at you in that one, which seriously hurt the franchise. I also heard that because the studio made him do this, Rami purposely did a shit job on the 3rd movie knowing it would make the $$$ anyways.
Venom definitely needs to be done much better. The only thing that needs to stay the same the next time around is J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. 1/12/2010 7:56:05 AM |

Spider Man 3 was far more a Raimi movie than Spiderman 1 or 2. It always seemed like, to me, they gave him too much creative control.1/12/2010 8:44:11 AM |

A reboot this soon is unnecessary. I've already seen too many origins stories. If they do end up doing Venom, they could go the route of the animated series and have the black suit find its way to a space shuttle that crash lands in NY. 1/12/2010 8:58:48 AM |

yeah too many origin stories and the spiderman series is still too fresh. Not to mention the almost endless number of comic book franchises that have been greenlit for film that i'd want to see first before seeing another Spiderman. 1/12/2010 9:05:53 AM |

Oh yeah and maybe this means that we'll see new Spider-Man in the impending Avengers movie alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Ed Norton? 1/12/2010 9:08:42 AM |

^due to the first three being owned by Sony Pictures, and now the chance for Marvel to produce and own it out right?
That would be pretty cool.
and if that's the case, use the Avengers film as the launch point for a new Spiderman franchise.

There's a reason why there a million trilogies and hardly any quadrilogies
3 is the perfect number for a franchise
You have the establishing movie, the second one where the bad guy gets the upper hand, and the 3rd one where the good guy faces his biggest threat yet but finally emerges victorious
Its a tried and true formula, and I'm glad they're not fucking with it 1/12/2010 9:18:37 AM |

wayyy too soon for a reboot. what they should do is stop selling spiderman 3, offer to buyback every copy in existence, and pretend it never happened. once this is done they should move forward with a movie that gives venom his due.
will new spiderman have web cartridges!?! 1/12/2010 11:48:16 AM |

That formula works for a good trilogy, but not necessarily a franchise. Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, and Star Wars give you great conclusions at the end, stories all wrapped up. Spiderman does not fit the formula. Each movie should be looked at individually, because as much as all three suck IMO, they are even worse as a collection. The only things that carry through from one to the next is the crush on MJ and the struggle with Harry.
James Bond is a great example of a franchise that can keep going, possibly Pirates of the Caribbean depending on how the next one goes. Although at some points a storyline carries from one to the next, most of them are generally disconnected.1/12/2010 12:10:17 PM |

ummm well he pretty much turned dark spiderman/venom in to a joke so that kids of all ages could watch it/ reach the largest audience + he crammed every gimmick in to the movie that he could or perhaps that the producers forced him to + the movie made a shit ton of money
that equals selling out to me
(what's funny is that nolan took the gamble and made dark knight an actual dark movie and still made more money with the dark knight)

you guys are cosmic super fags.
I cant believe I own SPIDERMAN #1 and the wedding issue from amazing spiderman.
Even worse, i have 3-d Marvel trading cards from the mid 90s which I probably spent real american dollars on.
But you dorkasaurus Rex's are talking about the Spiderman trilogy as if the first movie wasnt homo enough for you to stop watching them.
And then some supernerd comes in and compares them to Harry Potter.
Get lives, googling "cumshots album #13" is more entertaining than microwaving pizza and watching Spiderman 3 outtakes in HDDVD with Kristen Dunst.

Quote : | "The next Spider-Man film will be a reboot of the franchise, not a continuation of series Sam Raimi created back in 2002 — in a move similar to Batman Begins restarting the Batman franchise seven years after Batman and Robin underwhelmed fans and critics.
This time around, the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today’s issues. The decision to go with an origin story stemmed from Sony developing two Spidey projects simultaneously. According to studio insiders, Sony was working on both Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 and the new origin story from James Vanderbilt, who wrote Zodiac. The original plan was to keep the Spider-Man gang together for one last film in 2011 before rebooting the series in 2012. When it became clear that Raimi would not be able to make the summer 2011 release date planned for Spider-Man 4, the studio opted to scrap Spider-Man 4 altogether, and focus solely on the series reboot.
Who will helm the new film is anyone’s guess but with the studio interested in a more gritty, contemporary redo of the series, they are certainly focused on younger directors making waves in Hollywood. One name that has popped up is Marc Webb, the man behind (500) Day of Summer. He was previously in discussions with the studio to take over Moneyball, but that job went to Bennett Miller. Michael Bay has also previously expressed interest in taking over the Spider-Man franchise and Seabiscuit director Gary Ross worked on one of the drafts of Spider-Man 4 and is said to be a huge fan of the comic book series.
