when i called TWC, they had me ping sites and i got 0% loss. he said that since it was 0% loss it was a comp problem and told me to call my computer manufacture. it's a custom built desktop so i've just been troubleshooting myself. and yeah i am on my laptop on the same network and it is working perfectly fine...
I can ping all sites you guys listed.

I'd try selecting "no proxy" and see if that resolves it. 1/17/2010 5:04:37 PM |

I am assuming you've tried rebooting at some point, right?
Also, is the "working" computer connected via wireless or a wire? 1/17/2010 5:11:32 PM |

Try downloading Google Chrome on one of the machines that is working, use a USB stick to move it to the nonworking machine, install, and see what happens.
Possible issue with malware right now, given AIM works. 1/17/2010 6:43:57 PM |

trying google chrome now...
ok so i got google chrome installed and opened it and the homepage worked. i went to google.com and the page loaded for 1 second and as soon as it came up a blue screen came up where the webpage should be and it says "Aw, Snap! something went wrong while displaying this webpage. to continue, press reload or go to another page."
does this mean i have some sort of malware problem?

whenever i download that combofix to my laptop and copy it to a flash drive, it won't open up on my desktop. it says the file combofix.exe cannot be opened and then deletes the file from the drive. 1/17/2010 9:23:05 PM |

rename it to a random string of characters and then boot the computer into safe mode with command prompt. 1/17/2010 9:30:54 PM |
GameOver4U Veteran 256 Posts user info edit post |
this is a custom built computer and for some reason i've never been able to boot it into safe mode. i press f8 all day long but it never goes into the screen where i can choose safe mode.
i've tried malware bytes and everytime i use it it detects the same malware and says it removes it and i have to restart to compeltely get rid of it. as soon as i reboot and run malware bytes again, it detects the same exact malware.

If you're running XP, open the properties on "My Computer" and go to the system restore tab and turn it off. Then try malware bytes again.1/18/2010 11:37:59 PM |

i would try these in no particular order
1. winsock to fix your corrupted ip settings 2. run malwarebytes in safe mode, be sure the process loading the virus is stopped and not autostarted in startup, use msconfig to turn off permanently 3. system restore to an earlier backup
i've experienced your issue several times before and never once had i had to do a system format/windows reload....that should always be your LAST resort 1/19/2010 12:55:33 AM |

this didn't make sense to me, but I bought two wireless usb dongles for my desktop. one connected to my wifi network and could ping and send intranet data and the other could actually do shit on the internet. did you recently get a new wifi card? 1/19/2010 1:35:16 AM |
