is that an actual rule or am I misunderstandnig that call

im referring to when favres punk behind got form tackled as soon as he released the ball and the defender got penalized for it

it was basically a perfect form tackled that splattered favre

and then not long after he got hi/lowed and twisted around like a tornader

if that is actually a rule...its bullshit and its retarded, a form tackle is about as safe a tackle as it gets

if we dont want our loveable blue eyed QBs getting hit then let them fuckin play suspended froma fuckin blimp 50 feet above the action and pay em 100 bucks a game

since when?

ive never heard that called

thats kind of crazy

and what constitutes "driving the QB into the turf" because that hit last night wasnt anything malicious

id figure a rule like that to at least mean you cant lift his ass up higher and then splatter him as hard as you can, but damn if your just fallin with him that doesnt seem fair at all

I agree with you that QB's are too protected in today's game and that play you are describing was somewhat bullshit because Favre was falling back anyway. Bad call on that particular play IMO, but the rule is fine overall. You shouldn't be able to spike a QB just for the sake of trying to unload on a guy and hurt him. The ref was just a little strict with the interpretation of the rule in that case.

I had a much bigger problem with that "high/low" play that you mentioned. You are not supposed to be able to hit a QB in the knees when you are on the ground like that and it should have been flagged immediately. It was a textbook Brady rule.

Although the first call was legit...I think they didn't make the 2nd call because of the reaction from the crowd on the first call. I didn't like the first call, but it was correct. 2nd call should have been made too...but I wouldn't have made it if I was a ref. It wasn't late...just below the knees when I didn't think the guy had to make the hit.

Make up calls aren't limited to basketball

The high/low would have been called if Moretti hadn't blown his load on the first one

He did pick him up. He grabbed him under the thighs and lifted him up before slamming him down.

thats not what I mean...

i meant lift him up, elevate him further and drive him down

of course you lift a player up on any tackle you have to get their feet off the ground

plus he didnt even splatter him it was just gravity

You don't have to lift a player up to tackle him; this isn't one of your faggot MMA events

You can simply drive into player and knock him down, without having to lift and drive

Leave the analysis of real sports to the people who know what the fuck they're talking about

if you dont take care of the feet the athlete can evade

so youre telling me at the speed in which that defender hit brett favre, not that bonecrushing btw, that leaving him with his feet on the ground would give brett an extra chance to move or....anything?

this is funnny coming from a dude that probably played his only football on the S-box

get the fuck out of here

i mean tell what you just said to all the guys that peterson walked over lastnight

And like I said, that is exactly what he did. The replays were clear. He didn't just knock him down, he picked his ass up and slammed him to the ground. I thought it was great as I don't care for Favre, but, evidently that is illegal.

thats not what i was referring to again, but its a moot point because the lesser degree of lifting and driving is still illegal

whatever, not your grandaddy's football

It's been a rule for a while. In the 2006 Bengals-Bucs game, the Bengals were called for Roughing the Passer ON A SACK, because Gradkowski was "driven into the ground." Marvin Lewis said after the game "I guess you have to cuddle the quarterback gently to the ground," and he's basically right.

Less of a problem with this rule than the flag anytime someone touches the QBs helmet.

This is simple economics at work. QB = most expensive, least replacable player on the team = teams want to protect investment.

nah man

your comparing blatant fouls and bitch moves to a secure tackle on a QB

thats like saying im allowed to kick forrest griffin in the face, but not chuck liddell
what are you trying to get me to understand, its a rule, but i dont like it and i think it cheapens the game

i wish it were repealed, its not like calling a highlow or a helmet to helmet, or a late hit on the QB

youre penalizing a good tackle, and i cannot understand that, hell a tackle that is probably the safest way to go down and control your landing

like aikman said in his two-minute-long argument with joe buck about it, brett jumped up to throw the pass. thus when hargrove made contact, brett's feet were in the air, which made it look like hargrove actually picked him up, leading to the bad call.

it was just a strict enforcement of something that the official probably didn't see clearly to begin with

It's almost gotten to the point of 2 hand touch with QBs. I've seen instances already where guys let go of QBs or don't try to finish a tackle because they know that if they sling them to the ground they'll get whistled, and rather than the whistle coming and the QB getting called, "in the grasp" he gets away and completes a pass. Think about how big and strong some guys like Roethlisberger, McNabb, Rivers, and Vince Young are... you can't just push those guys over or bump them down.

Either call QBs down as soon as they are touched or eliminate the idea of a "rough tackle." No shots to the head or shots to the knee... ok, fine, but if you wrap a guy up and tackle him it should never get flagged.
