so my mom has this issue I can't figure out. she can't send emails with attachments through embarqmail... emails without attachments go through and she can receive all emails. from my computer I can send emails with attachments (using her logon) through embarqmail.
if you change the account that the email is being sent through (to gmail) it goes through. however, under the embarqmail account, if you change the outgoing to gmail it won't still won't send emails with attachments. her port numbers were the same as mine and this issue just started this weekend (she's been using embarqmail for a while now). no recent hw/sw changes that she can recall.
I also had her increase the server timeouts. When you send an email with an attachment it goes to the outbox, the S/R cycle goes through with no errors show and it shows that the send processes went thorugh but the email remains in the outbox like a S/R cycle never happened.
she has norton AV (I had her disable the scan outgoing emails), XP, outlook '03 on a dell inspiron. 1/31/2010 7:37:28 PM |

is her mailbox full (and does her email client save attachments in the outbox)? does whatever email service she is using limit attachments somehow? 2/1/2010 2:22:19 AM |

I don't think it's full seeing as how I can send emails with attachments through her account (she can't from her computer).
As for limiting attachments, not that I know of - it's not a size issue (10KB to 10MB all failed). She called Embarq and they said the issue was on her end, not theirs. 2/1/2010 9:43:33 AM |

if you can send through the webmail side it is probably a client side issue.
disable any anti-virus addons and add ins.
also check to see if they require any SMTP SSL or authentication when sending emails. 2/1/2010 9:53:50 AM |

^^I'm thinking I may do that. Needs to be done anyways ^she can send attachments using embarq's webmail so it is a client (outlook) issue. I had her disable the "scan outgoing emails" in norton. I'll have her run back through norton this evening to see if there is anything else. Embarq requires outgoing authentication... which is set up properly (I can use her logon & server information to send emails from my computer). Also, there are no errors during the S/R cycle and she can send emails without attachments.

I had her uninstall/reinstall office and set up outlook using gmail... it worked perfectly for a few hours but now won't send anything... I'm thinking something is getting corrupted (pst file maybe).... or HDD issues... 2/5/2010 7:56:03 AM |

Can she embed content via HTML email? i.e. Stick a picture in an email, rather than as an attachment? 2/5/2010 9:44:48 PM |

^ Agreed. Get any and all AV software off. Then troubleshoot. Options dont fix problems as you are trying to do.
You say she cant send anything now? Id reinstall again. 2/6/2010 11:17:10 AM |

well it's back to working, randomly, and hasn't quit yet.... weird.
^^^^she doesn't know how to do that... if things screw up again, I'll try to walk her through it. ^^^may try that; she's paid for norton and thinks it's god's gift (I have no clue why) but I told her I'm switching her to MSE when I get a hold of her computer. ^^see above ^that's the thing, there were no errors, outlook just simply skipped over sending emails with attachments; it left them in the outbox and never sent them (but would send emails with no attachments just fine). but no errors given at all 2/6/2010 3:31:03 PM |
