Whether or not you agree or disagree with more loans & tax credits for small businesses... do you think this will get threatened with a filibuster?

I'm all for small businesses, but I'm against systematic redistribution of wealth.

A simplified tax code combined with lower rates would go a lot further than a) the inherently inefficient redistribution of money through the Federal government or b) increasing the complexity of the tax code.

[Edited on February 6, 2010 at 8:10 PM. Reason : not to mention that TARP repayments are legally required to be used to pay down the debt]

This Obama character is a total moron. You want small businesses to thrive?

Reduce their tax reporting requirements, stop trying to jam healthcare through, reduce payroll taxes, and tell them to STOP borrowing money. Pass legislation that says there are no capital gains taxes on small business stocks. Then they can raise money thru equity rather than debt servicing that they can't sustain.

This stupid ass tax credit idea... I don't even know where to start. These businesses will spend more hiring lawyers and accountants to find out if they qualify for the tax credits than they will save by receiving them. And that's really what this is all about, Obama trying to fatten the wallets of his breathren under the guise of helping small business.

Mark Cuban has a terrific blog about this so I won't take credit for the majority of the ideas in this thread.

Who cares about loans. Small Business doesn't want to take out any loans right now. Health-care takeover, tax n cap, union card-check, ballooning federal debt, higher taxes on the most productive...

who would want to expand in this type of anti-business environment?

^^ haha, if Obama did those things (wtf does "tell them to stop borrowing money mean" lol) you would STILL bitch about him.

It means stop pushing loans down everyone's throat.

Loans to idiot consumers are what got us into this mess in the first place.

Obama thinks if he forces loans to consumers with these ridiculous home and car subsidies that we can all start watching American Idol again.

Now he's trying to push his borrowing bullshit on businesses again.

Instead of BORROWING encourage businesses to have EQUITY stakes.

You liberals are just so out of touch that you can't even make a valid point anymore, it's disgusting and it makes me want to wash my hands everytime I see one of you. I don't even obey traffic laws when I see an Obama sticker because I'm scared you guys are asleep at the wheel.

haha wow

Obama is now forcing people to start businesses they don't want to start?

Does that make him like a fascist capitalist, or something like that?

There is a grain of rationality in the ideas you're talking about, but you are presenting them in a way that makes it clear that you're an idiot.

One of the main reasons Obama is promoting small businesses now, is because this is one of the things the right have been crying about the past few months... about how it's not big, bad evil government that spurs the economy, but businesses.

On top of this, I can't imagine what you'd be saying if Obama got in front of the cameras and actually said "you small businesses that are using loans are STUPID? What are you thinking? Stop taking those loans!" ha

I'm sure you'll agree that there's a difference between "forcing" loans and "pushing" loans. Frannie & Freddie were key sources to our problems. The gov't actively encouraged the mortgage industry to give loans to people who could never cover them.

So who can blame us now when we get very nervous when the gov't once again starts encouraging us to take out more loans.
