Why does everyone what $texas for these things?
I want one.. 4dr, 5speed, <200k miles, <$2000. I know its out there.
Help me find one plz.
Also, whats up with the HX version?
What about it makes it gain 6 mpg over the others? Someone (who works at honda) told me it had 6 fuel injectors? Post-burn injectors? 6 tiny injectors > 4 regulars?
I know its a stripper, but no small weight loss like a sunroof or cd changer or whatever is gonna give you 6mpg.
Thanks TWW garage. 2/11/2010 12:02:52 AM |

demand >> supply
why do you think nissan makes some junk?
because they flood the fucking market with that crap, hence their horrible resale values 2/11/2010 1:20:55 AM |

you have demand from people who just want a shitbox to drive around, and you have demand who want to modify them. the 92-95 cars are really scarce in good shape, and the 01 and later cars are dependable but nobody wants to modify them. So the 96-2000 models are in high demand, even though the OBD2 requirements make it harder to pass inspection compared to the older models 2/11/2010 1:51:39 AM |

Yeah the 92-95 OBD-1 hatchbacks seem to be really rare in any kind of decent shape body wise.
Its odd to me that a car that MSRPd for 10k is worth 3k now without an engine in the engine bay. 2/11/2010 4:37:54 AM |

i got a '95 for $600
(but it needed a timing belt and the previous owner thought the valves were bent..but they weren't. so, $40 and an afternoon of work and it was fixed) 2/11/2010 8:26:50 AM |

I'd say drop back a generation and look for a 92-95 with reasonable miles and not beat to hell. Might take you a shade longer but have some patience and you will be rewarded. Especially if you want a 4 door, you won't be in competition with much of the modding crowd.
Plus IMO the 92-95 is better looking than the 96-00, but that's just my preference. 2/11/2010 9:04:19 AM |

They're in short supply because a bunch of trash in Gastonia stole half of them. http://www.carolinahondas.com/ganked/92195-gastonia-home-honda-death-lets-get-these-bastards.html 2/11/2010 9:11:56 AM |

The HX model gets great gas mileage b/c its a stripper with a lower curb weight, has super tall gearing, and I think they might have tweaked the engine somehow in the favor of fuel mileage.
Also, the 96-00 model is the last of the double wishbone front suspension Civics. The newer ones have (shittier) struts in the front. 2/11/2010 10:02:08 AM |

What's wrong with struts? 2/11/2010 10:07:31 AM |

Struts can work just fine (see Porsche, BMW) however double wishbone is overall seen as a superior suspension design. 2/11/2010 10:20:56 AM |

KBB Values for my '97 4dr 5speed Civic LX w/165k miles: Condition Value Excellent $2,690 Good $2,340 Fair $1,915
I must say, I'm impressed. I'd classify mine as "Fair"-"Good", once I replace the dead battery and CEL
It has been an amazingly great vehicle. I keep going back and forth on selling it.
For example, on a trip from Charlotte - ATL - Charlotte, where I did only interstate driving and traffic was limited to 55mph the whole way because of construction and traffic, I managed to get 50+ MPG 2/11/2010 4:00:24 PM |

^But the new, and far superior HYBRID get all of 40mpg. You must be lying. 2/11/2010 4:12:05 PM |

Screw heavy-ass hybrids and their overly expensive complicated systems that barely replicate the effects of a well designed, light weight vehicle with a manual transmission and a driver with some sense
I definitely don't get 50mpg on a regular basis, but I do regularly get more than the advertised 32/38 city/highway when I don't drive aggressively. 2/11/2010 5:26:40 PM |

I've managed multiple highway tanks in the high 40's with the turbo 8:1 frankenmotor in my civic (300hp). 2/11/2010 5:49:06 PM |

I'm thinking about selling my GSR if you're interested. I definitely more than $2K though. 2/12/2010 1:46:38 AM |

haha dont even get me started on integras. people want $$$$$$$$$$$$ for those things...
3800 for a 94 automatic with 240k, cut springs, fat fives.
4000 from a more reasonable seller with 170k, stock
i guess people have a love affair going on with those things. ridiculous. i could pick up a e36 or c-class benz for not much more.
Id rather have a civic.. better mileage by a significant amount. and if i spend over 2k i will care too much about it to be worth the trouble. 2/12/2010 8:16:57 AM |

friend of mine picked up a 96 with 160k for $1800 off Craigslist a couple years ago. it was a 5 speed LX 4 door. but the car had a misfire code (typical honda ignition problem, think it was the coil). 2/12/2010 4:41:33 PM |
