yeah we bought our kitty one of those leopard print houses with a soft pillow inside. she never goes in there. she would rather sleep next to the couch if we are sitting there, on the bed if we are sleeping there, or anywhere else random except that house. 2/13/2010 8:28:45 AM |

Ours has spots for a week or 2 and then moves to another. Some come up in rotation more often than others, but sometimes he chooses some shitty places for a cat to hangout and nap. 2/13/2010 3:03:04 PM |

Catnip might work. However, cats are not usually persuadable. Like it was said before, they'll sleep wherever they want...Like on the top of your head, on top of the fridge, in the closet, on the stove.
If you try putting a heating pad inside the cat house, they might like it. It worked for my parent's cat. 2/14/2010 1:10:43 PM |

put a door on the kitty house and bolt it shut with a lock. Put a sign on the door that says "no kittehs aloud". Cat's hate that. Pretty soon she'll be pawing it all the time and wanting to get in.
works every time. 2/14/2010 1:22:40 PM |

let another cat use it for a while. Then she will sleep in it all the time until she has convinced herself that she has covered up all of the other cat's smell. When you have 2 cats around that don't like each other they will have battles over who can lay on the pettiest shit. The boy's cat spent the better part of a morning in a cardboard box just to deny the other cat the option of sleeping there (other cat is too chubby to jump into said box anyway). 2/14/2010 2:06:50 PM |

spread loads of catnip on it for him. Our cats love their beds that have catnip on them even after not putting any on after awhile. Also it has to be somewhere safe for him, like high up or away from loud places, like near a washer machine or tv. I also make it a point to give them their daily treats in the little homes/beds and I try not to bother them while they are sleeping in them so it reinforces the fact that it's a safe hideout to sleep 2/17/2010 12:04:08 PM |

Cats like to look out windows. Shut all your blinds, leave a small opening in one window, and put the thing you want your cat to sleep on right in front of the opening. Also, a bird feeder right outside the window would help. 2/17/2010 1:00:31 PM |

That shit be genetic, yo.
Quote : | "Strange as it may seem, the different responses are probably due to environmental factors, genetics, and the gender of the cat (males are more likely to respond than females). If a cat who normally reacts to catnip is in a strange environment or is anxious, she may not react to the catnip. Cats in certain genetic 'lines' do not react to catnip. No one really understands the genetic trait, but it can be bred into a line through genetic selection." |

cats using very different criteria for resting location than ppl. just to speculate, i think they want a spot that doesn't communicate their scent, they prolly want to hear but not be seen (in the dark) they prolly want multiple escape routes. and ur chinese cat house prolly got nasty manufacturing odors ur nose not sensitive enough to detect. maybe wash it? and no febreeze not counting. i never been able to get a cat to do anything that wasn't it's own idea. 2/21/2010 5:18:51 PM |
