wilco was never awesome

a better name for this thread may have been "remember when wilco was tolerable?"

yeah.

their stage performances now are about as boring as can be.

(same can be said about the last couple of albums)

Jay Bennett really did make a big difference

jay bennett (r.i.p.) reminds me of why i love playing music

i was in a band for a while where the songwriter wanted me to "hit my marks" and play the exact same accents and fills every time we played, and i'm just not that kind of guy

on that version of "monday", bennett's all over the place

playing inversions, playing an octave up, but doing it all within the framework of the song, not missing his lead part or noodling at all

he's into the song and he's having fun

A band that's mediocre to the genre but successfully increases popularity in the mainstream music world.

I.E. - Wilco is whatever. I don't care for them personally, but they did bring some attention to the genre.

i do have a serious problem of significantly overrating albums after the first listen or two and then realizing how wrong i was later.

It is obscure. I have no idea who they are or what they play. I don't listen to the radio or watch any form of mainstream TV.

Wilco has a few good songs. I prefer son volt, though.

I don't see how so many of you have never even heard of wilco.

wilco is not that obscure of a band

people in this thread are retarded

i know a lot of people that don't listen to "gay" music that still know wilco because people that like rock and country sometimes venture into alt country and eventually stumble upon wilco. i also know a lot of jam band types that enjoy wilco.

they are far from obscure.

i mean i know this is tww so i don't expect much. but sheesh. its fucking wilco.

I'm extremely disconnected from mainstream society. It's kinda neat actually. On the rare occasions that I go to [downtown] bars I hear nothing but music that is new to me.
