For those of you on LinkedIn...

Do you all usually get head hunters coming after you on LinkedIn?

All the damn time. They find a few keywords and BAM so much spam.

(There a reason this is in Chit Chat and not The Lounge?)

Yeah, I understand the spam stuff. But recently, I've been getting a few head hunters that are obviously not spam. As in, they want me to work specific programs with them that are very much in line with my expertise... as if, they've been talking to people I've worked with in the past (don't know for sure though).

Yeah, this is in chit chat because, that's where I was...

Well what I call spam is unwanted headhunters

I do not want to go to a project in New England. Or Michigan. Or Florida.

Ahh, gotcha.
I thought you meant spam, as in big recruiting/staffing companies.

Part of me thinks that these head hunters are coming around trying to steal employees so they won't have to pay for the security clearance process

Since a head hunter's job is to socially network through their contacts to find new consultants they can put to work, it would make sense that you get a lot of solicitations on LinkedIn. After all, LinkedIn is a business professional social networking site.

If you don't want the attention, set your profile to private or delete it. Otherwise, deal with it.

The cost of obtaining a security clearance is paid for by the client, not the staffing agency. But you're on the right track. If a position requires a security clearance, it is 99.9% understood that they want someone who already holds a clearance, as the process to obtain one is extremely time consuming. Therefore, it's easier to pluck a security clearance holder away from their current job, rather than finding someone eligible and getting them through the process.

Did you lose your job at Northrop Grumman or are you just looking for more $$Alaska?

I do have security clearance, but I don't need a new job right now, so I don't see the need to have a LinkedIn profile.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have nothing to contribute to your thread.

I don't even use my security clearance for any of the work I do. They just put my office in the cleared section of the building since I have it, so all my clearance has really gotten me is a PIN number to go through the Special doors.

haha, after all the painful process that goes into getting it, i've only used my TS/SCI like...twice. even then, it wasn't critical--i got read in on some things, but it wouldn't have been that big of a deal if I hadn't.

of course, i deal with SECRET stuff pretty much every day.

@ kickstand....

Nah, haven't lost my jerb.... yet. I mainly use LinkedIn to stay current (professionally) with former professors, coworkers, societies, orgs., and businesses. Never hurts to have those connections...

I ended up deleting my account. It wasn't proving all that useful and I was just getting annoying job spam more than anything.

Hmm, I don't get spam on LinkedIn.

But I did use it to both find a company I'm interested in and get a connection to said company, so that was cool
