Gallipoli is really good. The Patriot is so historically inaccurate and blatantly pro-American that I can never decide whether I think it's awesome or terrible. I want to see Apocalypto -- I hear it's good. Braveheart is great, terrible accents be damned. And hell, I'll say it, The Passion was pretty decent for what it was, even if "what it was" is the film version of medieval passion play.

What's the South Park line from "Imaginationland" about him? "Say what you will about Mel Gibson, but that man knows story structure" or some such.

seriously? i can't be the only one that thinks all mel gibson movies are the same but set in different time periods.

esp braveheart and the patriot

let me refresh your memory: mel gibson running and killing people with the american flag??? does this SOUND familiar to anyone?

I hear where you're coming from. Surprisingly clever and educated bad-ass tries to stay out of a fight, someone fucks with his family, so he gets into the fight and whups all ass. But a lot of people, myself included, kinda like that premise.

^^I don't care what anybody says I kinda liked Signs.

Gibson was one of the two main characters in Gallipoli.

And I agree, vinyl, that Mel Gibson is a USDA certified grade-A sack of shit, to say nothing of the fact that he may be so far out there that he needs to be muzzled for the public safety.

I think I read somewhere that he got his first big part (Mad Max, maybe) because he drove a buddy to the audition after a night of heavy drinking and maybe a brawl. He looked so beat up and hungover that he looked perfect for the part. So yeah, a guy who broke into movies by acting inappropriately while drinking too much.

(Of course, that may all be false so who knows)

I've never met him in person, but when he was in Rock Hill filming the Patriot, alot of people I knew did meet him and said he was a nice guy

that being said, I love his movies, both acting and directing (note: I haven't seen Passion nor do I plan to), but hate his stance against Jews

The Patriot has Bensons mortal enemy - Clayton Endicott III.

But after the HILARIOUS blueberry tooth scene - the movie sucked balls.

"Some nice guy getting revenge on bad people who fucked with his friends/family" is the premise of almost every action movie. You can't be harpin on Mel for that. Gladiator, True Lies, Die Hard, Air Force 1, Face-Off, The Fugitive....ok Harrison Ford does it a lot too.

You CAN harp on him for being a religious nut.

When Myspace was relatively new I created an account for Mel Gibson. A few months later it had something like 10,000 friends. People were constantly contacting me offering free food/gear if I would stop by their store/restaurant and let them take some pics of me in their establishment. I think the kicker was the dude who did a huge "Passion of the Christ" wood carving and wanted to donate it to me. I responded that I cannot accept gifts, but if he would send me a pic I would put it in my photo gallery. Shortly thereafter the account was deleted. Presumably Mel or his management team became aware of it and whined about it to Myspace.

I was a really good Mel Gibson though. I was always nice and apologized publicly in my blog that I did not have time to respond to every PM I received. I told the fans how much I appreciated their support, etc. It really helped some people through tough times. I don't know why Mel would get upset. You'd think he would thank me or maybe hire me as his internet liaison.
