Presidential Weekly Address for March 06, 2010
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/03/05/weekly-address-what-health-reform-will-deliver-year
Quote : | "Here are a few more points about how health insurance reform measures will benefit Americans this year: Hold Insurance Companies Accountable:
* Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all new plans; * Prohibit rescissions of health insurance policies in all individual plans; * Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans; * Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs; * Establish a process for the annual review of unreasonable increases in premiums, requiring State insurance commissioners to work with the HHS Secretary and States.
Protect Consumers:
* Provide grants to States to support health insurance consumer assistance and ombudsman programs to help consumers; * Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions; * Require all insurance plans to use uniform coverage documents so consumers can make easy comparisons when shopping for health insurance; * Establish an internet portal to assist Americans in identifying coverage options; * Prohibit insurers from discriminating in favor of highly compensated employees by charging them lower premiums.
Ensure Affordable Choices and Quality Care:
* Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool; * Create a temporary re-insurance program for early retirees; * Require new plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26; * Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing; * Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage; * Facilitate administrative simplification to lower health system costs. No government run public option, but more access to preventive health and doctors offices instead of ERs on the public dime.3/6/2010 6:03:21 PM |

For one thing, this is the first administration to ever expand the weekly fireside chats into a format so easily shared and discussed on message boards. And that is something I am in favor of. So I wouldn't call posting those gushing, and this topic in particular is more about what the legislature is doing rather than executive. If you think the weekly presidential address is inappropriate for the politics section of a message board feel free to ignore it, otherwise you're only bumping it to the top. And the topic changes every week, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, and I'm not interested in making a "lots of random topics in here thread." Besides, they drop off the front page of the Soap Box after a week or two every time so it isn't like its clogging the works. And I'm not the only one in the soap box who thinks more frequent threads would be an improvement over longer threads.

hot damn, another "LET'S GUSH OVER OBAMA" thread from Supplanter. I'm sure he'll rationalize his butt-love in some way. keep up the masturbation, dude
but, hey, let's keep worrying about ramming healthcare reform through against the will of the people and against common fucking sense, all the while the economy is in shambles. seems like a good idea to me...

Things which will raise the costs of health insurance or will likely do more harm than good:
* Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all new plans; * Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs; * Establish a process for the annual review of unreasonable increases in premiums, requiring State insurance commissioners to work with the HHS Secretary and States. * Require new plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26; * Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing; * Create a temporary re-insurance program for early retirees;
Things which might be good ideas if it wasn't for the fact that the government inevitably fucks up everything it touches:
* Prohibit rescissions of health insurance policies in all individual plans; * Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans; * Provide grants to States to support health insurance consumer assistance and ombudsman programs to help consumers; * Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool;
WTFs:
* Prohibit insurers from discriminating in favor of highly compensated employees by charging them lower premiums.(WTF does this mean?) * Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage;(What about credits to individuals? Or even better, lets stop encouraging the group purchasing mindset and make the insurance companies work for each individual consumer. * Facilitate administrative simplification to lower health system costs.(It is physically impossible to reduce administrative overhead and complexity by increasing government involvement)
Good ideas:
* Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions; * Require all insurance plans to use uniform coverage documents so consumers can make easy comparisons when shopping for health insurance; * Establish an internet portal to assist Americans in identifying coverage options; 3/6/2010 10:05:12 PM |

These are just a few examples from the past few weeks. But is there any reason half your responses to me are to are unrelated to debating the merits of what has been said, or turning it into a personal attack, because it is getting kind of old. If you want to debate the merits of what has been said go ahead, but there really is no point to responding to everything with insults or personal attacks on me or my husband. And your whining is getting rather tiresome and repetitive, and has no place in a discussion between adults.

considering that you HAVE been twisting words, it's NOT a personal attack. get the fuck over it.
I tell you what. How about you STOP FUCKING MAKING A THREAD ABOUT OBAMA EVERY FUCKING WEEK. then maybe people will stop bitching about you MAKING A THREAD ABOUT OBAMA EVERY FUCKING WEEK. seems pretty simple to me. Yeah, instead of one long thread where you profess your love for Obama, we'll have twenty fucking threads about it on the first page alone. Really, what a great idea.

^This thread is more about what the legislature is up to than the president. And much of what you just said was hyperbole and I think you know that. And if you really think posting an 8 or 10 paragraph story and then commenting on it is twisting words, then we just disagree over what twisting words means, but even so there is no reason to bring my husband into it, or your flowery language, and caps lock into some part of every statement you make.
If you think the weekly fireside chats are inappropriate for the politics section of a message board then feel free to steer clear of this thread if it is making you so mad, unless you want to keep having this same conversation full of caps locks and flowery language every week. 3/7/2010 2:30:25 PM |

again, when YOU PICK THE FUCKING STORY, it's incumbent upon YOU to pick one that adequately describes what is going on without resorting to twisting words. You consistently picked ones with sensationalist rhetoric in them. thus, YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE WRITING THOSE WORDS. you mean to tell me there were NO OTHER ARTICLES that discussed what you wanted to talk about? really?
look, I have no problem with you posting about the weekly propaganda. i DO have a problem with you posting a new fucking thread every week about essentially the same thing. One thread will suffice, since the topic generally dies after a week. If you are worried about people having to peruse to find the start of your next weekly gushing, then put a banner that says "NEW TOPIC" or something so it can be easily found. wow, THAT WAS HARD.
and trust me. Every time you make this thread, I will post the same fucking complain.

fine. then expect me to post the same rant in every gushing thread you make, in an effort to derail them. we don't need a cheerleading thread for Obama every week. 3/7/2010 2:42:39 PM |

How about a compromise? Not every weekly address needs its own thread, but we don't need a consolidated "Official POTUS Weekly Address Thread" either. This one, for example, could have easily been posted in the "Healthcare Thread" thread.
If they're on topics that are already covered in other threads, they're likely to engender the same type of discussion and would be better suited for posting in the other thread to bolster your case there. But if they're on topics that are new, feel free to make a new thread about that topic and include the weekly address video in the post. 3/7/2010 3:24:29 PM |

I think it's fine that Supp posts these. Clicking this thread gives me a quick synopsis of Obama's increasingly annoying political sermons.
And we should be able to post whatever we want, and let the Wolf-Web Free Market decide which threads live or die. 3/7/2010 11:25:25 PM |

I actually prefer smaller threads with more frequency. What purpose does the giant Obama or Healthcare thread serve, really? The same points are rehashed over and over again, so it's not like people are going back and reading the whole thread and then posting. 3/9/2010 6:30:10 PM |
