I saw it earlier from downtown Raleigh... and smelled it when I went home (west Raleigh).

I didn't see anything when I passed by there this morning at about 8, nor when I was in that area at around 1-2.

I live kinda close to that area, haven't noticed anything in the way of smoke, or heard sirens. That doesn't mean anything though

I saw on the news a report about a brush fire in Cary, but that didn't seem to mesh with the single plume of black smoke I was from 10:30 through lunch.

I saw the smoke too, i guess it was at about 12:30 this afternoon. It wasn't in Cary, it was further east than that.
