I would love it if this could get and stay posted until Friday night, is that possible?
I am a 26 year old…
2008 graduate of Virginia Tech (masters degree in horticulture), a 2005 graduate of NC State (BS in horticulture) and 2001 graduate of North Davidson High School . I enjoys lifting weights, music, anything in the plant world, and teaching college biology labs at Virginia Tech. I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma* over Thanksgiving and needs a stem cell transplant to save . I have 2 sisters and neither are a match.
You could be my life-saving match!
My sister(class of 2009) and bro-in-law (class of 2010) are sponsoring a stem cell/bone marrow drive this Friday in Raleigh. It will be held at AB Combs Elementary School, 2001 Lorimer Drive, Raleigh, NC from 4-7pm.
There are no needles involved at all, you simply swab the inside of you mouth to get cheek samples. There are people there to help and it is free. I am going the stem cell route which if i find a match and it can happen is as simple as giving plasma. I have a website and a facebook group which you are welcomed to look at that explains more of my situation.
http://www.prayersforpaul.org
and please friend me on facebook and I can send you the invite to the event and you can send it to all your friends.
http://www.facebook.org/prayersforpaul
I would appreciate any help my fellow Wolfpack Nation can give me! 3/10/2010 11:02:52 AM |

prayers?
I thought you're after a match, not prayers?
-- On a more serious note, I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I won't be participating in this drive because I'm already in the registry.

I appreciate your cause, Paul, and wish you all the best, but why list your education and interests like you're creating a profile on e-harmony. No one is going to give you more money because you enjoy lifting weights. Simply state the issue at hand and direct us to the site.
Good luck with everything. I hope it works out. 3/10/2010 11:08:20 AM |

it costs $100 to be in the registry?
Shit...well if I had the money I would do it...but I'm also not in Raleigh either...but if I had the money and I was around I would do it. 3/10/2010 11:36:42 AM |

^ they usually run deals where you can register without having to pay anything. to do all of the tests its pretty expensive.
ambrosia posted in the lounge about the coupon/deal a bit back 3/10/2010 11:38:29 AM |

Yeah I figured that is why you need to pay for it...I mean honestly I wish I could do it, but I really have no extra spending money at the moment anyway 3/10/2010 11:40:33 AM |

It doesn't cost anything to join! they have sponsors and large companies that make donations to help cover the costs.
I have no words for people who can joke about cancer, i just hope you or a loved one never have to face it one day. I'd hate to hear what would be said if I was a UNC Alum. what a shame 3/10/2010 11:53:12 AM |

I'm already in the registry as well. They were doing it for free one day in Talley when I went to donate blood, so I went ahead and got in there.
They did contact me one time as a potential match, so I went and had a little blood draw done for further testing. It turned out I wasn't close enough, but it's really quick, really easy, and could mean the difference between life or death for somebody out there. I highly encourage you guys to just go there for a few minutes on your lunch break or between classes if you have time. 3/10/2010 12:34:37 PM |

Unless something come sup, count on me coming by to get swapped.

have you supported any parties (evangelical churches for example) or voted for any candidates who are anti stem-cell research or otherwise anti-science in any way? While u deserve genetic matching regardless of your political views, we deserve full disclosure.
zealotous cock-blocking of medical researchers is all fun and games till somebody gets cancer
