so far I've only received a letter that said "in a few days you will receive a census survey in the mail. please fill it out."

i'll be honest, i was a little pissed about that complete waste of paper and government resources required to send it.

I got mine out of the mailbox tonight, but I too thought what a waste when I got the first letter.

Just finished mine. For the first time ever, this once a decade process, is counting gay married couples as married. It was nice to mark myself down as married.

i dont know why they pretend like they don't monitor everything, and they don't know how many people live here, etc

i filled out mine yesterday. i was very disappointed though. the old censuses from the early 1900s asked lots of somewhat interesting information like job, house value, salary, etc. i've been doing a LOT of ancestry research and finding those with that info makes it fun. 100 years down the road when someone else is looking for this stuff, it'll be boring.

Filled mine out yesterday. Took like 3 mins. It does annoy me how much it costs though... $14.5 billion. There are so many more important things that $14.5 billion could be used on.

and how would you know how to divvy up that $14.5B? say we wanted to invest $14.5B in public schools...without the census how do you know if you're giving the right amount of money to the right districts?

wtf. this is supposed to be on the basis of April 1st. My lease ends on March 31st. After that I'm going to be living in shared housing and filling out the form then is going to be waaaaaay complicated. Fuck that, census.

this is basically just another way of ensuring that everyone in the household was counted. it's extremely simplistic quality control.

there are partnership efforts in nearly every community in america. illegal hispanic immigrants may or may not fill out the form (certain households also rec'd a form in certain second languages--spanish is one of them), but when they don't they will be visited in person by an enumerator hired from their neighborhood (i.e. a bilingual hispanic)
