this is bound to work. every time I make it, the best they can muster is 22-25 wins

And no wins of any significance either! So yeah let's try it out--can't hurt.

**Year 19 of the Herb Sendek coaching experiment**

This could be the year for his first conference title and perhaps 2nd Sweet 16.

so....Herb has a 5 man class coming in next year:

Keala King from Mater Dei (CA). probably play the 3, but his high school coach seems to think he can run the point

Corey Hawkins of Estrella Foothills (AZ). all-time state of Arizona career scorer. had a few 50+ point games this year. won't do too much next year, but should be a starter by his soph year

Jordan Bachynski of some overseas Mormon mission. 7-footer who got a UConn offer before he left for his mission

Chanse Creekmur of Iowa. Horner type player. gifted QB in high school too

Brandon Dunson of some IL junior college. should challenge McMillan for PG duty next year

starting 5 should be:

McMillan - SR
Abbott - SR
Kuksiks - SR
Lockett - SO
Pateev - SO

playing in the Alaska Shootout, playing Texas Tech, Baylor and Gonzaga

i'm looking forward to this thread. next year should be an interesting year.

it's never easy, losing your four-year starting PG...and all-time leading games starter...and all-time leading FT shooter....and school-record assists....and best career A/T ratio

the X-factor is how well Jamelle does.....oh, and who the hell (Rohde, Pateev or Bachynski) starts at center

Is Glasser the all-time ft shooter you mentioned? That would suck being his final act as player was a free throw fail that lead to the loss. No sarcasm intended, I always liked him.

especially in the powerhouse PAC-10 conference, where every team is a threat to win the NCAA title

In some sort of defense, the Pac-10 was actually pretty good the last few years before this one. It's not like it was the SEC or anything. UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Wazzou and USC have all been VERY GOOD teams in the last five years. It was just a perfect storm of suck this year.

Yeah, and while the ACC was better than the PAC-10 this year, there were some similarities...both conferences were down, in large part due to UNC/UCLA being down...but I mean they really sucked this year

Corey Hawkins was named Gatorade Arizona High School Player of the Year

Quote :
"Goodyear Estrella Foothills senior guard Corey Hawkins was named the Gatorade Arizona Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Hawkins, The Republic's two-time Small Schools POY who will play at Arizona State, led the state in scoring this past season with 36 points a game. He led Estrella Foothills to a third straight Class 3A championship.

Hawkins broke Mike Bibby's career and season state scoring marks. Hawkins had 3,154 points for his four-year varsity career and 1,152 points this season. He also averaged 10.1 rebounds, 4.6 steals and 3.7 assists.

He has a 3.14 grade-point average. He helps out as a youth basketball counselor in Goodyear and has been involved in efforts to collect and send shoes to earthquake victims in Haiti.

Hawkins wasn't selected for the McDonald's All-American game, which didn't surprise Estrella Foothills coach Ty Amundsen, because Hawkins didn't participate in AAU tournaments in the spring and summer.

Hawkins preferred staying close to his Estrella Foothills teammates in the off seasons.

"He's all about team," Amundsen said.

Amundsen said that Hawkins will fine tune his game before he gets to ASU. He said Hawkins will need to get stronger and quicker, thing he believes will happened based on Hawkins' work ethic.

"Physically, he'll be OK," Amundsen said. "The sooner he picks up things, the better he'll be."

Hawkins will enroll in summer school at ASU and soon start playing in pick-up games at ASU with future teammates."

don't you have to be rated first in order to be overrated?

i guess technically they were rated at one point. the Pac-10 media "rated" them as the preseason 7th best (out of 10) team in the conference.

^Both Cal and Washington are pretty good, and they got shitty seeds because of how weak the Pac-10 was perceived to be, but having 2 teams play well in the tournament doesn't change the fact that the Pac-10 as a whole sucked balls this year.

That all american thing was interesting:

for 2010
Sherron Collins G Senior Kansas
Wesley Johnson F Junior Syracuse
Scottie Reynolds G Senior Villanova
Evan Turner G Junior Ohio State
John Wall G Freshman Kentucky

Kansas will be good, but not near as good... Cuse, who knows. Nova could improve on their finish. Ohio State will be pretty good next year. Kentucky, IMO, would be a bubble team in a 65 team field next year.

I want to make a thread about another basketball team and be tww's designated fan...

My short list:
Clemson
Wichita State
Kansas
Oregon
Washington
Ohio

List isn't final so I'm open to suggestions.

I'm thinking about taking Washington and Oregon out of the running. Thing is, I like Oregon's football team (spread option offense ftmfw) and that's swaying me.

I'm a big fan of Cal academics, but have never really cared for their sports teams. The whole bear thing doesn't sit well with me (bears are, IMO, the scariest animal)

set em up
