I'd love to hear some conservative defense of thier latest shenanigans.

At some point the Palestinians will learn that there are consequences for pissing off Israel, which I don't think is entirely unreasonable with its "Don't launch rockets at us" policy.

Also I've had stuff thrown at me and been tear gassed, one isn't all that much worse than the other.

Thing is, their policy of launching airstrikes on domestic targets is not only excessive, its completely inapropriate.

Israel gets pissed off any time something stops them from bulldozing and building. There are consequences to standing in front of an Israeli bulldozer, you'll get run over, that doesn't mean they are justified in running you over.

well maybe, mambatroll, just maybe if the palestinians weren't fucking firing rockets from within houses and hospitals, maybe Israel wouldn't fire at said places. just a thought.

^ why shouldn't Israel be able to build? it is their country, after all. Jordan gave up any claim to it decades ago.

BUT, I can agree that we should stop bankrolling Israel. not because of any perceived aggression on their part, but just because it doesn't really help us.

No doubt, but that wasn't what happened in the incident I was talking about. A rocket attack is different from standing in front of a bulldozer.

I'm not here to give Israel a blanket defense for all its actions, but I am more than willing to defend:

1) Retaliating against rockets with airstrikes
2) Retaliating against rocks with tear gas

Why? Because they were able to take it through terrorism, racism, and violence? If they were justified in those means wouldn't Palestine be justified in them as well?

^^ no, because they took it in a war, whether you like it or not. Jordan has since given up ALL CLAIMS to the land. Thus, it is part of Israel, in the same way that New Mexico and California are part of the US and not Mexico.

History lessons for US policy on Israel?

Quote :
"With US-Israeli ties at a low ebb over plans to build new homes for settlers in disputed East Jerusalem, the BBC's Paul Adams wonders if a former secretary of state (James Baker) offers lessons for Hillary Clinton in taking on Washington's powerful Israel lobby.
.
.
.
A spokesman said the Israeli announcement sent what he called a "deeply negative signal", not just about the peace process, but about Israel's relationship with the United States. Strong stuff.

A few days later, and the tone had already changed. Mrs Clinton spoke of the unshakable bond that ties Israel and the United States together.

She's clearly got half an eye on Monday, when she and Benjamin Netanyahu both make speeches, on the same day, to the annual conference of AIPAC, the powerful pro-Israel lobby here in Washington.

But AIPAC was quick to take umbrage with the Obama administration, warning it not to make public demands of Israel."

LOL, who is whose bitch/puppet?

All of eight people have posted in this thread, out of whom only three seem to disagree with you. So about you actually make an argument instead of exaggerating the number of people who aren't in your camp and then insulting them while maintaining an unjustifiable air of superiority?

I don't think the Israelis were justified, but it's too late to worry much about that now. Whether the state should have been established or not, it damn sure is established now, and any process that could disestablish it would be far bloodier and nastier than anything going on now.

Likewise the Palestinians aren't justified in their violent actions. Furthermore, the actions are counterproductive. A peaceful movement would be considerably more expedient and effective, I guarantee it. Americans are going to keep supporting Israel as long as it looks like it has any share of the victim pie. But if Israel is the bully and nothing else but, it's a matter of time before we bring them to heel.

Countries, in general, aren't founded peacefully.

I mean, should we turn all of our land back to everyone we got it from, with the exception of the parts that we purchased?

Unfortunately it's not necessarily Americans but rather politicians in washington (democrats) who if they aren't in the right on Israel issues - they can kiss the jew money goodbye on their elections and re-elections.

DC has for a long time been ignoring Israeli aggressions on Palestine. Not to say that Palestine isn't an aggressor either. Both parties are at fault.

But when Israel continues to build outside their boarders and put up more and more camps, as they've been told not to by the US and the UN, then they're going to get attacked more (which will just make them look like the victim even more).

Just a vicious cycle.

how are they building outside of their "boarders" (gah, why can't people spell this fucking simple word correctly) when they are building on land that no one else has claim to but them?

The database also shows that, in more than 30 settlements, extensive construction of buildings and infrastructure (roads, schools, synagogues, yeshivas and even police stations) has been carried out on private lands belonging to Palestinian West Bank residents."

From the Spiegel Report that was leaked in January

Quote :
"The report data demonstrates:

Over 30 settlements - including longstanding settlements such as Ariel, Kochav Yaakov, Beit El, Elon Moreh and Ofrah - that were to some extent built on private Palestinian land.

Construction activity within settlements being conducted without necessary building permits or in direct violation of the building plans.

The extent and locations of unauthorized building in outposts across the West Bank."

It's still awfully hard to put a positive spin on supporting a government that's doing nothing but shooting peaceful protesters. On the other hand, it's really, really easy to put a positive spin on supporting a government that shoots at guys with bombs and rockets who are the same color and religion as the last guys to attack us. It's so easy, in fact, that you can pretty much gloss over the part where they bulldoze people's houses in illegal land grabs.
