In the process of planning summer vacation. Im gonna be in Cuernavaca doing a study abroad this summer, and I want to spend a week vacationing after that. I cant decide on Puerto Vallarta or Cozumel. I actually just went to cozumel for a day on a cruise and it was amazing. I love the beach and snorkeling.

This is what I have heard so far by searching the web:
Cozumel: built by mexico to be a touristic place, better beaches (Caribbean ocean), party town
Puerto Vallarta: More authentic mexican, more restaurants, things to do

Any opinions? Thanks guys!

^ Puerto Vallarta because more than likely at some point in your life, you'll probably have another chance to go to Cozumel (via cruise or something).

I've never been to Puerto Vallarta, but I thought Cozumel was way too touristy. On a related note, I did study abroad in Cuernavaca several years ago and it was fucking awesome.

i did an all-inclusive last year during memorial day when the swine flu craziness was going on for dirt cheap - i heard the town wasn't anything worth going to - we just stayed at the resort on the beach and at the swim up bar for a few days

I was there a month living with a Mexican family and a few friends. We went to the pyramids one weekend, Acapulco another weekend, and the silver mines. We'd also go out to the bar several nights a week and interact with the locals. I'd frequently go to the park, play chess, look at the shops, etc. We also went to a carnival one night. The weather was great in June; high/low around 70 all the time.
