Matt Robbins, a 26-year-old alumnus from the College of Design, completed his master’s thesis on the built history of the campus and has conducted impressively thorough research that has led to a custom made tour of the campus, which he has been offering free of charge to interested students. During his tour he explains why UNC-Chapel Hill and N.C. State are rivals, which he said, has nothing to do with sports. Also included on the tour are the background stories behind the University’s Old Well, the Masonic symbols that are scattered around campus, and the fact that every entrance to the buildings on old campus face east. The success of the Finish the [Bell] Tower project, which he founded, Robbins said, began his exploration of other aspects of campus history. Robbins said he became interested in researching the historical significance of the buildings on campus as a hobby at first. However, his passion for architectural history and his close attention to detail, he said, led him to pursue his graduate research in architecture more seriously, which unearthed a myriad of interesting facts surrounding the campus and its founding. “It [the project] was something that was here and now, something that I could get my hands on immediately, immerse myself in and analyze it from a first person point of view,” Robbins said. “Instead of reading about it in a book, I could just walk outside and start digging.” Initially, Robbins said, he only gave tours to his friends, but due to positive response he later publicized his tours through the campus social forum, The Wolf Web. Promising to shed light on several forgotten, or at least rarely known bits of campus history, Robbins said he attracted what were initially small groups of students. He said it was not very long before word spread that his tour really was something to write home about, attracting upwards of a hundred students. Robbins said he worked for a tour group, Triangle Segway, which caught on to the earning potential and overwhelming interest in his tour and allowed him to custom design a 90-minute version offered through the business. Robbins also said he hosts historical tours of downtown Raleigh. For Robbins’ next project, he said he will be working with another alumnus, Mike Thompson, to examine the 34 students who died in World War I — the same students that the Memorial Bell Tower stands to honor. “We decided that we were going to start digging to find out who these people were because we talk about them with regard to the Tower but no one has ever put a face with a name — what’s their story?” Robbins said. If students are interested they can sign up for a tour with Triangle Segway, Robbins said. Likewise, he said students express support on The Wolf Web or through his Facebook page." |

Sorry to revive a real old thread but I've got 2 questions:
Does anyone on here know if/when Matt Robbins (ArcBoyeee ?) published his campus history book? He mentioned publishing one in a few different threads I saw.
Does anyone knw when his thesis was published? I've been trying to find it on NC State's theses list (https://repository.lib.ncsu.edu/handle/1840.20/23) but couldn't find one under his name.
He's no longer active on here but I imagine a few of you still know him. 6/2/2020 3:56:45 PM

When I last saw him, a year ago, he worked at the Apple store in Crabtree. You could seek him out there. 6/2/2020 4:01:50 PM
