I got a call from NCSU Annual Giving requesting a pledge for the 2009 class gift, which they claimed to be a memorial for past coaches. Then I check their website (http://www.ncsu.edu/annualgiving/senior_class_gift.html) which has the 2009 gift listed as the "Watauga Club Pedestrian Gateway Project".

Well, which is it? I can't find legitimate info for either. I don't mind paying but I want to know what I'm giving to.

Like most graduating classes, it was the parking fees.

No class gift in 2005 or 2008? Really? Where'd the money go?!

The Class of 2009 has plans to raise money to purchase two benches in the new Coaches Corner http://coachescorner.ncsu.edu a memorial garden that will be located next to Reynold’s Coliseum and the Talley Student Center to honor previous coaches’ outstanding contributions to NC State and the community.

The first coach to be honored will be legendary women’s basketball coach, Kay Yow. Coach Yow lost her long battle with cancer when we were seniors and the Class of 2009 participation in funding this initiative is a fitting tribute.

They never raised money in 2005 or 2008. Eventually they may go back and try to do something.

dang Adam, I didn't think you would ever show up here. at least not since 2004

besides. the class of 1915 ALREADY built a gateway for Watauga Club Drive by Primrose Hall. Where did it go? I don't know, but its out there well until the 1920s in the library archive photos.

We changed from that project after we found more out about the Kay Yow project. They are looking into and trying to find the 1915 stuff

Did you ever find a photo of it?

Man all my class did was a scholarship endowment? Glad they never even bothered calling me for that one

Okay, I like being part of the Kay Yow garden. After my undergrad in '06, I thought "I don't want to give to a scholarship that I wouldn't have even qualified for. They should do something that we can all enjoy, something I can point out to my kids some day... at least a bench!"

^^ I used to see some classes actually being held there when I was at State. It looked like it sucked though for everyone because the teacher had no board or computer to work from and the wind was blowing everyone's papers so it was hard to take notes for the students.

If the other bench is for Jimmy V they ought to just call it the cancer garden

They are actual bust of the coaches. The first phase is Kay Yow. The next phase will most likely include busts of Jimmy V, Coach Case and others.

I've never understood the point of raising money to buy a bench...you can get a wooden bench and engrave something and screw it to the back of it.

Raise money to do something cool on campus, benches are lame.

For the 2009 Project the money is going to the overall project. The benches will just have the Class of 2009 name on it. As well as the donor plaque.
