The full flat ground Delica 4's and Endura 4's are probably the sharpest knives Spyderco has ever produced besides the Military and Para-Military. The Delica 4 shown above is INSANELY sharp, it is downright dangerous son. If it touches you, you've had it son. I really enjoy the pink Endura 4 too. It wont ever get a chance to go out in public at the same time as it's child, the pink Delica 4, though. That's really too bad son.

^^ Honestly, the knife dude at Davi's isn't half bad at sharpening (Quite good in every instance I've seen honestly) and he should be able to handle a serrated knife. Call him and see what he says. There is also the option of sending it in and having the manufacturer sharpen it if they are a decent manufacturer.

The cleaning part should be done by you though son.

^^ Those are decent choices son. I have the Dozier, but I never carry it because it's one of my cheapest knives. It's a damn good knife for the money though, that's for sure.

The Byrd is a good value but I don't like the chinese steel very much or the Byrd hole.

The Blur is a pretty good knife but Kershaw has never done it for me.


^ The CRKT M-16 is a popular knife. There are better choices out there, but it's a cool design IMO. My advice would be to buy a plain edge knife and just keep that one as a backup rather than pay to sharpen it. If you really like it, then you can pay to sharpen it though.

I usually carry three knives son. One inexpensive, one medium cost, one rather costly. The inexpensive is almost always a Victorinox Cadet (Green Alox) though.

^ Naw, but I don't care for Kershaw really. They don't generally use steels I like and they don't usually utilize blade or handle shapes that I like. I go for Spyderco and Benchmade mostly.


These Cadets are such good EDC knives. They look straight up classy and they aren't expensive at all. They're also EXTREMELY thin and lightweight for what you get.




They don't sell well because that color is a Target exclusive color and most Target shoppers have no clue what the fuck they're doing with a knife. So they, being of the American mentality, buy the SAK with the most shit in it rather than a more practical and rare one. Victorinox is only selling Silver Alox handled Cadets now, so if you see these in Red or Green at Target, snag one. They're excellent knives.

Well, when you need to cut something it comes in handy.

A knife also comes in handy for emergencies, such as:

1. Defense (Depending upon the design and your proficiency)
2. Self extraction (ie - cutting seatbelt when in an upside-down car, requires knife in pocket though)
3. Medical purposes (Varies)

I tend to carry one knife that is not a utility knife, but simply for one or all of those emergency tasks (I leave it nice and sharp in case the time comes). Spyderco is a manufacturer I recommend if you want a knife. You really can't go wrong with them and their pricing is better than Benchmade for what you get, IMO. Benchmade is more expensive and has similar quality (They also offer higher quality, "Gold Class" knives if you have like $400-$1000 to burn). Spyderco offers quite a few folding rescue knives, tactical knives, EDC knives, gentleman's knives, etc.

Also, there is a certain romance to carrying a well made piece. I carry for this reason as well, lol.

Spyderco has been using reinforced handles recently, so even their FRN handles have stainless steel liners (Except the Salt series, which still uses FRN only in the handles so that they can handle salt water). Both of the knives I show in this thread have stainless steel liners. I prefer Spyderco knives with G-10 handles though and I have a bottle opener in the Victorinox Cadet anyway. Keep in mind that Spyderco has a range of quality levels that they offer like most manufacturers. I'm also big on using a knife for knife tasks and other tools for other tasks. I don't generally recommend prying anything with folding pocket knives unless there is literally no other choice.

Yeah you can get something decent for $50. A gentleman's knife is just basically something you can carry when dressed nicely. You wont find many gentleman's knives in the $50 range but you can find good stuff at that price.

I recommend buying from the site I'm linking you to. It's got the lowest prices on the net for the most part and the owner is nice and gets the orders right. The only thing that sucks is that they don't stock Benchmade knives, but I prefer Spyderco usually anyway.


Ok, these first two are human zippers (Then unzip whatever they touch, be careful son) from the Spyderco Salt Series of knives. These use H1 blade steel, which has almost zero carbon and is hardened with nitrogen instead. The steel is completely rust proof, unlike regular stainless steel. When work hardened by sharpening it will become similar to VG-10 steel in terms of edge holding, but right out of the box it's more like something between AUS6 and AUS8. These knives do not have stainless steel liners. The advantage of that is that they are extremely lightweight and are still plenty strong. The disadvantage is that they will not put up with blatant abuse (Which I can't do to any knife, but some people do abuse them by prying and these won't care for that very much).

If you want a good all-around knife that will put up with some abuse and is heavier overall, go for one of these. They have stainless steel liners and VG-10 blades (This is a very good stainless steel, most knives in this price range wont have steel this nice).

If you decide to spend some money, this is one of the best all-around knives Spyderco makes. It's called the Military. It has S30V blade steel (My favorite steel, period) and G-10 handles as well as a titanium locking bar (It's a liner lock). Best of all, it's made in the USA and in relatively limited numbers. The build quality is extremely good. My Para-Military is my favorite knife but I don't recommend it for everyone because of the compression lock. Note that every other knife I've listed is made in Japan with very good build quality, but their Golden, Colorado knives (Which includes the Military) are exceptional. Most places charge $140+ for these, but YCS has them for just under $120. At this price they are an extremely high value.

This is the Para-Military by the way. It's the little brother to the Military but I prefer it for a number of reasons. Like I said though, someone who isn't REALLY into knives will prefer the regular Military because it's simpler to use and has a bigger blade. This knife still has G-10 handles and an S30V blade and it's also made in Golden, CO. It's really nasty man. These things (The Millie and the Para) come razor sharp too. I mean RAZOR sharp.

Thin is good for that kind of knife. I don't pry with pocket knives so I prefer thin for slicing.

I haven't had trouble with the OSO Sweet man. For $20 it's been good to me. I did have to loctite the screws but I expect that kind of shit with most knives. The handle is hideous but it is ergonomic and the flipper acts as a choil guard when the blade is open. I would never use knives of that size and "quality" for heavy duty work though, so maybe that's why I think they're just fine. I'm not one to press substandard shit into performing heavy duty tasks. I will say that the OSO sweet does have full stainless liners and they aren't skeletonized. The blade or the lock will fail before the handle does.

You can straight up snap something like a Frost cutlery knife in half, lol. But the OSO Sweet should handle moderate use. Pretty much anything you'd encounter in EDC use. In fact, I'd say the handle itself should be stronger than the Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter (That thing is straight Zytel with no liners).
