I hate how people try to get me to listen to O.A.R. It's as if they don't have enough confidence in their own tastes that they have to try to make other people listen to shitty music.

Granted, O.A.R. is fucking terrible (as is Paramore), but I don't think that has anything to do with people trying to get you to listen to them, nor does their "confidence in their own tastes." A lot of people who have good taste in music and have an established, defined sense of what they like and don't like try to share music with others, too. You share music because you like it and you want other people to like it, too. I don't think that if someone has you listen to O.A.R. it says that they don't have confidence in their likes/dislikes; it does however say that they have shitty taste in music.

there are good acts there on occasion, but in general the brewery is a shitshow

we booked a lonnie walker/future islands show there last year

even though we were getting paid off the door (and thus any comps were coming out of our pocket, not theirs), they gave us two guest list spots per band because they "needed to cover their employee expenses." i think they thought FI and LW weren't going to draw, but i guess when you book 7:00 out-of-town emo shows every night, you don't learn who the popular local bands are

a couple hundred folks paid through the door later, that seemed awfully silly

also, we told them to get a bunch of cheap domestic beer and they'd sell it all, but it didn't get done and they were out of PBR and High Life before the first set was over. i felt bad for the girl bartending, as i don't think she expected to make so many drinks.

the employees were all really nice and just doing what they were told, but it was still dumb.

^^that girl was like 14

and not only did they run out of PBR and High Life, they had NO OTHER BEERS in the fridge, so it was an awesome night of drinking shitty warm beer

^^ no, they're not. it's the name that newraleigh.com has cleverly given the amphitheatre

it's unnamed right now, a la the Entertainment and Sports Arena before RBC bought the naming rights

I'm just waiting for The Brewery to fall down. When The Dillinger Escape Plan played there a while back, parts of the ceiling fell down on their guitarist.

parking is going to suck if you want to park next to the entrance. otherwise, parking will be incredibly easy.

This sucks. I want to see Tegan+Sara but not Paramore and I missed their show in Richmond.

If you haven't T+S's new album, know it's not like The Con: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIYY5p-lg-s

Is this venue going to replace Walnut Creek?

No, it's not nearly as big. I'd say the entire venue is about the size of the covered version of Walnut Creek.

BS. There are two city parking decks right next to this thing. Parking will be excellent for this venue.

Seems they'd be at a severe disadvantage gate-wise if they want to grab the acts that would normally go to Walnut Creek.

^yeah, I remember when they opened Fayetteville St. in '06 and parking was def. not an issue then, and there's more parking now than then.

No way they'd look at booking the acts that truly need the size of Walnut Creek.

However, they'll have a good shot at drawing the acts who go to Walnut Creek and only sell 3,000 tickets at discount prices.

that's what i figured. i always used to wonder what sort of crowds a tour consisting of Human League and the remaining member of Culture Club (sans Boy George) drew.
