I do know that Aaron Bates is moving his way up the Red Sox farm system pretty nicely.

who's that pitcher that was on the braves a few years ago and was laughably and embarrassingly terrible

[Edited on April 3, 2010 at 5:05 PM. Reason : i think it was the braves?]

^I am guessing you are talking about Joey Devine who was brought up the same season he was drafted. On the DL now with the A's. Won't get the closer role there, but is still pegged as a possible future closer.

you mean the same Joey Devine that, in 2008 for Oakland, pitched 45 2/3 innings with 49 strikeouts, 6 wins, 1 loss, 1 save, an ERA of 0.59 and a WHIP of 0.83?

Yeah...he's not the same pitcher he was with Atlanta

I still count Trot Nixon as an NC State man.

Joey Devine pitched less than 20 innings for the Braves

Yeah Devine just wasn't quite ready for the majors when he was with ATL. It seemed everytime he went to his fast ball he got lit up (see that grand slam in the playoffs)

(He never gave up a slam in the playoffs)

(He gave up the winning hit to whatshisname from Houston in the 97th inning)

I think Trot is retired now if I remember correctly. He bounced to the Mets and Indians after leaving the Sox and I don't think he lasted anywhere too long.

I know, but I still remember how I was sad when I heard he decided to go pro instead of coming to State, where he was supposed to be a QB as well, I think.

I don't think I've ever agreed with a single thing Spontaneous has ever posted in all of Sports Talk. It's almost like he talks out of his ass or something.

We pursued him more for QB than as a baseball player.
