Under what situations have you got a loaner/rental from a stealership while your cars being worked on for warranty repairs?
i have a 1.5 year old vw, and evidently one of the 859734895734753298 sensors in it is bad and needs to be replaced. as a result, the ac is shot. "if they're lucky" the part will come in on friday....so i'm probably looking at a week without AC. Do they ever do rentals/loaners for these types of situations, or should i have purchased a BMW or a Lexus if I wanted that type of service? 4/5/2010 5:05:27 PM |

leith gave me a loaner when they were fixing something small (i think it was the rear washer nozzle) under warranty on my gti. this was back in 04 or 05, so i dont know how their policies have changed.

you only get a loaner if they have to keep it overnight

I get a loaner every single time I take the car in for anything, but I have an Infiniti. 4/5/2010 6:40:00 PM |

I don't think it's vehicle-specific but dealership-specific. i had the transmission cooler lines, serp. belt, and intermediate steering shaft on my truck replaced under warranty and was offered a loaner for the 3 hours it was going to take them to perform the work. i've never owned any other vehicle with a warranty but from what i understand certain dealerships offer loaners while others don't.

you might be able to raise a fuss albeit politely since getting loud and boisterous never gets you anywhere and it's possible they might give you a loaner. however, i imagine the only time they'd offer you a loaner is while your car is actually at their facility getting repaired.4/5/2010 7:17:28 PM |

yeah that's what i was thinking...and i'm not really much of a fuss raiser anyway so i'll just let it be. i just can't believe it takes this long to get a freaking part.4/5/2010 7:38:59 PM |

my guess is since your car is only a year and a half old and the part's not in stock it's a common problem. hopefully the germans have redesigned the part not to fail again. 4/5/2010 8:02:43 PM |

I received a loaner for the last service check that they did, which was just fluid changes.
But to expect a loaner when they aren't working on your car? Severely doubt it. 4/6/2010 9:36:47 AM |

Anytime I take my car in for anything thats going to take them several hours (scheduled major service or if there's a line) they'll usually ask if I'm going to wait. If I tell them no then they'll give me a loaner since I don't work close enough for them to have a guy drop me off and pick me up.
This is when I take the 04 MSM into the mazda dealer in durham. I'm not under warranty anymore either. 4/6/2010 6:18:43 PM |

Loaners are dealer specific.....different dealership, same brand, different policies.
Performance always scheduled loaners, and they were on average scheduled for about 2 weeks out. Didn't make a damn if you were getting wiper inserts........as long as you made your appointment about 2 weeks in advance to setup a loaner.....you got it. 4/6/2010 6:28:13 PM |

All I can tell you is its hard to get a loaner from AutoPark Honda, regardless of how much work you're having done. I was lied to there and told "we do not provide loaner cars". Then while I was waiting for something I saw (over by the shop entrance) a white out board with a loaner car sign out list.
Assholes over there. I eventually got a loaner car for the 2nd time I had work done there (3 days without car) but I had to be very forceful about it and told them to call me as soon as a loaner was available (work wasn't required immediately so I had that luxury). 4/7/2010 8:23:47 AM |
