Maybe it's just b/c I'm a male and appreciate fine brick work, but I don't think State's campus is ugly at all, especially when you compare it to some of the college campuses found in the Northeast. I think some of these "ugliest campus" ratings are just rehashed over and over with people not even actually walking around them all. Besides we have just as much brick as UNC's campus. Here's a great nugget from the article:
Quote : | "Sarah Spitzfaden, a senior in biological sciences, said she thinks whatever they build next should not be brick.
“Stop with the brick. There is one building that is beautiful next the to library, Patterson, because it is the only one that is not brick,” Spitzfaden said." |
Last I checked this building is made out of brick you stupid bitch. Are you really that dumb?

As I recall, the only non-brick building is Poe.
It is neither near the library nor particularly attractive.

Wow, this is bullshit. We use the same building material for almost anything, and yet our campus has more range in stylistic design, more character, and more variety than any campus I've been to. The fact that UNC is so monotonous and perfectly boxed, yet called "beautiful", leads me to doubt anyone that thinks NCSU is ugly has actually walked around our campus. 4/7/2010 2:05:42 AM |

Harrelson and Poe are the only two non-brick buildings on State's campus. 4/7/2010 2:06:58 AM |

If there's anything ugly on NCSU's campus, it's not the bricks themselves but the fact that a lot of the bricks are/have been poorly maintained.
Up until some of the more recent construction projects, the brickyard and a lot of the sidewalks looked nothing short of fucking terrible, what with all the loose or broken bricks... the sloped areas of the brickyard, particularly.

Nice addition to the campus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmoJKOAEghA&feature=player_embedded
I could see how "riding" the wolves before the start of a semester for good luck could become a good tradition.

Typical generic response - use the scapegoat region. There are plenty of nice campuses in the Northeast, many light years better than ours.
I never found NC State a bad campus, just not a very good one. I think Hillsborough St has A LOT to do with it. You have to admit our surroundings are complete shit.4/7/2010 2:50:55 AM |

If people want a suburban or rural campus, they should be going to school like Middlebury or UNC. NCSU's campus I think is very nice and fits in with its urban setting.
I was impressed with the amount of renovations that have happened since I graduated when I visited campus in September. With the Hillsborough renovations I imagine it will only get better. 4/7/2010 3:31:49 AM |

the thing is, you go to a place like unc, or recently i visited a friend in auburn, which is revered for its campus, and every building there is brick. i'm pretty sure we just got put on a list of ugly campuses one time by whoever and haven't been able to shake it, b/c we have a really nice looking campus, if you ask me.
except for those brick things outside burlington. those have to go. 4/7/2010 7:02:37 AM |

bricks are awesome!
they look cool, you can throw them
and they built humanity as we know it (don't correct me if I'm wrong, I don't care)
--
if anything, we need to switch up and use different sizes and styles of bricks in construction rather than use other materials!!!!!! 8/30/2023 12:27:07 AM |

wah wah I'm slipping on some bricks
I don't even get it, I've ran across the brickyard before in pouring rain and never slipped? Are running shoes special in this regard?

My employer has embedded surface gravel in new concrete installations to enhance traction, and just last week a visitor with a temporary mobility issue (he was using a knee scooter for a bad foot) was complaining about how uneven and unsafe it made the surface. I observed him almost wipe out twice. So, you can't please and fully protect everyone. Leave the bricks alone. 8/30/2023 7:31:46 AM |

On one of the first days of my Freshman year, it had rained overnight and I was riding my bike to class over at the CHASS buildings... I went to turn towards the bike racks, and my front tire slid-out from under me and I busted my ass in front of a large group of people. 8/30/2023 9:05:41 AM |
