A friend told me today that NCSU is getting rid of their undergraduate Zoology program, is this true? Or is it being absorbed by the Biology department like Botany was? Are there new Biology degree concentrations?

It makes me sad to think that State no longer offers the two degrees that I received just a few years ago (although Botany is now called Plant Biology, I still like the old name better).

"Where's Zoology?
(September, 2008) We have changed our name, but we are the same faculty and staff that you knew as the Department of Zoology -- with the formal addition of those faculty, staff, advisers, and students in the Biological Sciences Program. We will continue to offer the same degree programs in Zoology for undergraduates as we did before the name change, with the addition of the B.S. in Biological Sciences and four new areas of concentration within the Biological Sciences degree. Our graduate degree programs in Zoology and in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences have not changed. Our faculty research programs continue as strong as ever -- in fact, it was their growth and expansion that helped to drive the change in name.If you are a Zoology alumnus we hope you will still feel like part of the family, and we encourage you to keep in touch to let us know where you are and what you are doing."

^ that isn't what he's talking about... they might actually be getting rid of the degree program

according to my source:

"The curriculum committee is considering various things but I don't know what the outcome will be."

Still got animal sci, and a monopoly on accreditation as a vet school in the state. We'll survive.

Zo and animal science are very different. Zo is a great major not only for those who want a broader scope of the animal kingdom but for pre-meds as well...

Not to mention, the source I have is very reliable (trust me) and he said they haven't made a final decision yet
