I've been looking around at some places to learn some type of martial art, mainly just to get in shape. I've been looking around at some places online, but I'm not really sure about the quality of them. Just wanted some others input before I spent money on a membership. To start off with, has anyone heard anything (good or bad) about this place:

Says they offer MMA style fighting, which looks really interesting.

Fred Simmons, in Conchord, taught me everything I needed to know about Tae Kwon Do. He's awesome.

Plus he's the king of the demo. You can learn so much just by watching him.

Meditation is great and all, but I never heard of it saving anyone from a gang rape type situation.

Is this Chit Chat now?

You motherfuckers all know better.

I have heard good things from several people about RIMA, and the guys who run it are pretty nice dudes.

A long time ago I studied jujitsu at Karate International. Disclaimer I do not know if this is the same company that is now currently located off of Millbrook. It used to be on Spring Forest. So assuming the one that was on Spring Forest is still around, they're a bag of dicks. The instructor was a real jerk and they screwed me out of some money when they suddenly decided to change their payscale and rather than informing us just changed the auto-payments. Thankfully I was paying attention to my account so I questioned them about it immediately but they basically told me to suck it AND if I decided to cancel my lessons right then and there they would charge me an exorbitant cancellation fee (something which was not in the contract btw).

So yeah, avoid them if they're still around.

I heard that RIMA isn't that great and that there's a better gym in north raleigh whose name I can't think of.

do your homework alot of these martial arts guys are crooks

if they seem cultish and exclusive, walk away

ask about how they do their belting if they have it, maybe you can sit in on a belt test. that should tell you everything about the school.

even for the inexperienced, you can tell whose belts are awarded with merit and who is awarding belts to whoever writes them a check...wont be quite that extreme but youll know that somethin aint sitting right with you if its the case
