The game is called Xplorers; it's exactly like Catan... just don't mention the name "Settlers," "Catan," or "Settlers of Catan." They don't take that too kindly lol.

i've only played once on the actual board game, but have it for xbox. the xbox opponents aren't that difficult, but are annoying because they never trade like real people would.

sheep are the most useless resource. it makes me mad when we have a four player game and space is tight so i'm relegated to a space with sheep on two sides. what the hell am i supposed to do with all of them? no one wants to trade for sheep. you end up with a bunch of useless cards that you have to trade 4:1 or lose them all when a 7 is rolled.

sheep are horrible and development cards are usually a waste of resources and only bought as a last resort. sure, you can try to get largest army or a single victory point, but that's no fun. the joy from this game comes from collecting huge stacks of cards each roll and then not trading with anyone else.

I've heard this is good, but I am automatically inclined to dislike any board game with expansion packs.

Expansion packs are for late-90s video games, and not much else.

A lot of board games actually have expansions, such as Carcasonne. The Cities & Knights expansion is my favorite...

to play online players you've got to install an application. it's all free, unless you want the expansion games.
