Looking for someone to come by and bathe my dogs bi-weekly, I have 2 small dogs, but quite frankly, I don't like taking the time to brush and bathe them. One's a boston terrier (25 lbs) and the other one is a boston terrier/pug mix (15 lbs), they're very good and calm. PM or post here if interested, thanks!

Sorry, i'm not the most knowledgeable with dogs, I suppose monthly then? Although I swore someone told me they bathed their dogs weekly, so I think that's where I got that from.

To be honest, unless your dogs are literally rolling in mud and excrement, there is no need to give them a full bath.

Ever.

With frequent bathing dogs are much more likely to experience bad skin problems.

We bathe our dogs like once every 3 months or so. But they stay outside so bathing them more often is pretty pointless.

IF your dogs stink, you are buying cheap food. I am dogsitting and the dog smelled something awful (whole house smelled like dog). I bathed her 3 times in the last 6 months and switched her to california natural food. Now there is no dog smell, and her farts aren't as smelly either (still bad, but not clear the room bad so it's a welcome improvement).

Would a dog on an all-natural meat diet (those hardcore ones people do which I had no idea about when I was 12 and had my first dog) have a "better smell" than one on processed dry foods? I thought it had more to do with the oil in their coat, whereas I can't tell if you're saying it's their excrement/gas, or if that was just an addition.

Yes, a raw meat and bone diet would pretty much eliminate the dog smell. Dog smell happens when the dogs aren't getting enough of the right fatty acids and there are toxins in their diet (very common in low grade kibble).

I mentioned the farts because that's the only time you can smell the dog now. Before the whole house smelled like dog. It was bad. That is now gone with better food and several baths (and a new sofa, even the sofa smelled like dog). Most people would not believe me if I told them the way the house smelled before.

If you want a good value high end dog food I suggest taste of the wild or california natural. California natural is so calorie dense that a bag lasts forever. The lab I am sitting gets 2 1/4 cups a day and that's probably too much, but she's 13 and not at all active and used to being free fed so I am slowly cutting down her food intake. I get califonia natural and taste of the wild from trianglepet.com (good prices and free delivery).

I had a german shepherd that lived in the garage/backyard, went to the vet once to get spayed, was only fed table scraps, and lived to be 17 years old. Thats like 119 in human years.

We bathed her every few months, and she didnt smell that bad.

Same here. I had a great dane that ate anything that wasn't a)bolted down or b)more than 3 feet off the ground. His ass was happier and healthier than any dog I've ever had. Unless it got cold, he lived in yard and seemed to enjoy himself.

We've got a 75 lb. chocolate lab who runs and swims all the time. We hardly ever bathe her b/c she never stinks and her coat is always super shiny. We feed her Purina Pro Plan - Large Breed. She also likes to eat sticks and pine cones which is weird, but doesn't seem to cause her any problems.
