Quote : | "Call of Duty: Black Ops deploying November 9 By Tor Thorsen, Guy Cocker, GameSpotPosted Apr 30, 2010 4:52 am PT [UPDATE 2] Teaser Web site reveals launch date of Treyarch's next installment in series; co-op mode, Vietnamese, Cuban, and Arctic locales confirmed.
Though it wasn't supposed to be officially revealed until later tonight, the next Call of Duty game has been unmasked early. The official Web site of the game, subtitled Black Ops, went live this morning, revealing its launch date of November 9, 2010. The bare-bones site revealed no other details about the game, which is in development at internal studio Treyarch, developer of the 11-million-unit best-seller Call of Duty: World at War.
Putting the black back in Black Ops. [UPDATE] Activision has now officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops, which it says will "take players behind enemy lines in an entirely new chapter" of the first-person shooter series. The publisher confirmed that the game will have a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer, and a co-op mode. It is unclear if the co-op mode will be for the entire campaign or will have a more limited scope as in Modern Warfare 2's Special Ops mode.
Today's revelation follows rumors that the next Call of Duty game would focus on either the Vietnam War or, as now appears more likely, various regional and guerrilla conflicts that broke out during the Cold War. Silicon Valley blog VentureBeat went so far in an article yesterday as to say that the game would be titled Call of Duty: Vietnam, which is now obviously not the case.
[UPDATE 2] UK retailer GAME has apparently confirmed the multinational Cold War setting in its product description for the game, which reads: "Call of Duty Black Ops is the next installment in the thrilling Call of Duty franchise. Packing an amazing single-player story that will see you fight across the globe in locations such as Cuba, Vietnam and the Arctic." Since Vince Zampella and Jason Ward's lawsuit against Activision said Infinity Ward had control of all Call of Duty games set after the Vietnam War, a Cold War setting is almost assured.
The Black Ops announcement is a positive piece of news for Activision's Call of Duty series, following weeks of negative press surrounding the franchise. Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward has been at the center of Activision's problems, with more than 26 key staff members resigning and many joining the studio's fired cofounders Jason West and Vince Zampella at their new startup, Respawn Entertainment. On Tuesday, 38 former and current Infinity Ward employees sued Activision for $150 million to $625 million, claiming nonpayment of Modern Warfare 2 bonuses and royalties.

I spend more hours playing COD3 than any online shooter I have ever played. I am not going to say its the best ever or you are crazy if you don't agree with me, but the only thing that makes MW better (I guess) is that fact that is a modern setting and has better automatic guns (I guess), and that's just generally more appealing. 5/1/2010 10:57:28 AM |

Well I for one think Treyarch should have they shit together by now, and I have faith in them this go round. I can't wait to see what kind of pre-order special that will be offered. I understand the judgment passed upon them now based on their past COD ventures, but let's be open-minded and at least wait until the game actually comes out before we assert anything about this game. 5/1/2010 2:30:41 PM |

I liked WaW online, thought the campaign sucked, but Treyarch also put out the shit fest that was Quantum of Solace: The Video Game. Not too high on them. 5/1/2010 4:04:44 PM |

Are you serious??? I actually liked the WaW campaign and not the multi-player. Either way the campaign was way better than MW2. I suppose the graphics and the action itself was "fun" in MW2; however the plot for MW2 was paltry at best, to non-linear jumping around to much, disappointingly lacked an AC-130 (or analogous mission), and ended to abruptly. I was highly disappointed. At least with WaW you had two teams that were working towards one goal, russians to Berlin and marines to japan. In MW2 you are in Iraq one mission, killing hostages another, then in brazil, following by killing Russians in Virginia, switch back to doing covert ops in Russia, and finally end up in Afghanistan doing shit. Not to mention I lost track on the amount of time the pussy player character got killed or had to be rescued by his team mate.5/1/2010 5:44:10 PM |

^^ Yep. Treyarch has had multiple opportunities to produce a good game with the IW COD engine (more than Infinity Ward, even) and has failed at every single attempt. 5/1/2010 8:24:13 PM |

Quote : | " Call of Duty: Black Ops coming to Wii - Report
* By Tom Magrino, GameSpot * Posted May 11, 2010 4:52 pm PT
USA Today lists Nintendo's system among platforms for Treyarch-developed, Cold War-era shooter, due November 9.
After two months of tumult surrounding Infinity Ward and the Call of Duty brand, the shooter saga took a comforting turn of events in late April when Activision announced the expected Call of Duty: Black Ops. As had been rumored for months, the Treyarch-developed shooter would move beyond World War II and into the Cold War era, delving into regions such as Cuba, Vietnam, and the Arctic.
Black Ops will begin in November.
This week, USA Today offered one more expected development for Call of Duty: Black Ops, reporting that Treyarch's shooter will arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. And as with Treyarch's last project--Call of Duty: World at War--USA Today confirmed that Black Ops will ship on the Wii. All four versions are expected to be available on November 9.
Activision has previously stated that Treyarch is focusing its entire 200-plus development team on crafting Black Ops, a first for the studio's efforts on the Call of Duty franchise. Though details on the project remain light, the game will have a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer, and a co-op mode. It is unclear if the co-op mode will be for the entire campaign or will have a more limited scope, as in Modern Warfare 2's Special Ops mode.
As for that single-player campaign, USA Today's first look at the game detailed one level in the game, set in 1968, in which players attempt to infiltrate a Russian facility in the Ural Mountains. In the level, gamers pick through enemy combatants with a scoped crossbow, and they'll be able to work in alternate ammo (such as explosive-tipped arrows) to overcome different scenarios.
