My cousin is getting married this summer and they'll be coming up to Raleigh for a combo-party. I'm supposed to find a bar/club (and a back up place) for us to have some fun and drink. Mostly military and
about 20 people; need liquor, beer, music, maybe room to dance, and able to seat a party of 20.

What are some good places in Raleigh, keeping in mind that they'd like to have a back-up bar/club that is close by in case they'd like to try another place (walking distance).

Here are some that I know of, though I don't know much about many of them.

Big Easy
Flying Saucer
Longbranch
City Limits
The Office
Rumrunners
Bogarts
Hi-5
White Collar Crime
... what else

Take them to Fayetteville, they'll fit right in.

BTW, the Office is now Tantra.

Don't worry, it still sucks just as hard.

Big Easy is good but not really a dancing place from what I've seen (unless that upstairs part has dancing)
Flying Saucer.. I think you'd have a hard time finding enough seating
Longbranch - never been there but I've heard it's not that great (although that's hear-say)
City Limits - only good if you're 18 and/or want to watch skanky chicks ride the bull in their g-strings
The Office - what ^ said
Rum Runners - very hard to get seating for 20 people unless you get there at like.. 7
Bogarts - when I went there was plenty of seating on the porch and good dancing, but it was pretty pricey
Hi-5 - never been but I've heard it's alright
White Collar Crime - I honestly think yall will have the best experience here. Seems to be plenty of seating options and it's a good dance club. They always have $2 PBR draft as well I think.

I would also suggest:
The Oxford (that might be a bit pricey though)
The Hive (but not very much seating)
The Busy Bee (lots of seating but no dancing... but it is right below the Hive)
Alibi (last time I went was summer 2008 so it might not be open anymore, but it's a dive bar off Fayetteville St.)
Tir Na Nog - they usually have a band so I guess there's your dancing!

isn't a bachelor/bachelorette combo party just a "party"? don't they cancel each other out when celebrated at the same place?

thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into these.

I'm thinking that maybe we should just hit up Glenwood or Fayetteville street and we can just bar hop as needed.

Glenwood South/Fayetteville are good options. Don't forget that you can jump on the R-Line and go from place to place relatively easily until about 2:15am.

Seems like one of the those things where the wife imposed her will to make sure the husband doesn't have a typical fun bachelor party with tits and ass.

I give them 5 years, maybe less.

I do not want a joint one... mainly because I want a "suck for a buck" shirt (totes stealing that from LK) and I know Eric would be all >_> and I'm pretty sure his friends want to take him to Derriere's in Myrtle Beach.

I didn't even think about Glenwood St... Bill, I know Noir has plenty of seating and dancing. Also, the Bassment doesn't have good seating (I think one couch) but it is good for dancing. Havanna has a lot of seating and it's a cigar bar so yall might be interested in that for a starting point.

i totally want a shirt that says "i'm single"

maybe cody can get one that says "me too"

[Edited on May 4, 2010 at 4:16 PM. Reason : is Derriere's a gentlemen's club?]

lol.

it's a joint party because they have a lot of common friends, there's only 20 people total, and they've both been married before, so they're not in it for the first time party experience.

Derriere's isn't just a gentlemen's club...it's a fully nude club in which you BYOB

and is pretty much the beginning sentence of some of the most hilarious stories filled w/ shenanigans I've ever heard--"So, this one time down in Myrtle Beach we were all at Derriere's..."

^ same here.. Eric was like "eh, whatever" and Scott (one of the groomsmen) proceeded to tell him that the bach party really isn't for him anyways... it's for the groomsmen plus Eric has never been to any sort of strip club so I think it'll be hysterical to hear about his reaction when EVERYTHING isn't there

my stepdad and his friends went there for his bach party... it was funny to hear how one of their friends got them kicked out

[Edited on May 4, 2010 at 4:52 PM. Reason : same here meaning it always leads to funny stories]

if you go to hi5/bogarts/red room you pay one cover ($5) and can get in to all three (or no cover if you get there before 10pm) - there's plenty of room to dance and each one caters to different types of people:

hi5: sports bar during the day and club at night. g105 broadcasts live on fridays and there's always tons of bachelor/bachelorette parties. they also serve food until 2am. the back rooms turn into a huge dance floor at 10pm.

bogarts: more preppy crowd, all different kinds of music. thursday is ladies night and half price martinis. if it's any indication of the people, I went there EVERY thursday and some fridays from 2005-2006.

red room: latin/electronica-ish music and tapas. amazing food. thursdays they have free salsa lessons.

they all can accommodate large parties, but I think hi5 and bogarts are the better choice. just call and make reservations. AlanM2388 is the manager of hi5 and will definitely make sure you have a good time.

^ this is good advice

While I can't say I would go to those places for my pre-wedding combo-shindig, I think it fits your requirements well. Also, if you hate all of them (which I doubt you will) there's a plethora of other options within walking distance. And there a diner down the way for when you get the drunchies (that's the drunk munchies, btw)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. My fiance should be able to enjoy his strippers in peace and I should be able to do the same.

But yeah, R-Line all the way. Just hop around the bars downtown.
