They both enjoy drinking (both raucously and while chilling at home) & both like vodka. Would they look at me differently if I gave them a nice ass (and large) bottle of vodka as a present? Don't like giving stuff like toasters or whatever, but also don't want them to be like, what the hell ndmetcal, why'd you get us booze (couple is in their late 20s with no alcohol-related issues in their or their families' past) 5/7/2010 10:29:08 AM |

Just get them something off their registry and don't risk it. I mean I am sure they'll be happy with anything you give them, but there is a reason people do wedding registries. 5/7/2010 10:32:31 AM |

My husband gave each of his groomsmen a bottle of their favorite liquor (among other things) and they all loved it - and then one of his groomsmen gave us a bottle of Dom Perignon and some glasses and that obviously was a great gift. Ages when married - Me - 24, Him - 28

If you're concerned, and willing to spend the $$. Maybe give them a gift off the registry first. Then at a later time, just give them the bottle and say "hey, something for yall to enjoy later"
IDK though, not too experienced with wedding gifts. 5/7/2010 12:36:17 PM |

You should only give that Tanqueray No. 10 for wedding gifts. Gin is an adult's drink. 5/7/2010 2:22:49 PM |

i have a bottle of hendricks that's been sitting on my liquor table for over a year unopened. there are, however, 5-6 bottles of tanquery and tanquery no. 10 in a landfill somewhere in it's stead... 5/7/2010 2:32:05 PM |

Only if:
1) You know that both the bride and groom really enjoy a specific type of liquor. They better be fucking connoisseurs. 2) You can find a very rare or unique prime example of that type of liquor, which ALSO has a unique connection to you or to the bride and groom. If you can find it in an ABC store, nay nay, good sir. 3) You are willing to also get a token gift off the registry.
- Honestly, from what I just wrote this seems easier to accomplish with wine than liquor. 5/7/2010 5:36:48 PM |

You know they both like vodka so I think it would be a nice gift. Just go for quality over quantity. 5/7/2010 11:08:28 PM |

I don't know what the rules of etiquette say about it, but I would have certainly been appreciative of some good liquor as a wedding present. 5/9/2010 10:59:34 PM |

get whatever you want...if you're good friends with them and think they'd actually enjoy your gift, get it for them
that said, registries exist for a reason, whether you consider them impersonal or not (i do, but i can't argue the logic of them and so my fiancée and myself will be using several)...if you're indifferent to the type of gift you give them, get something from the registry...if you'd rather give them something that came from you (rather than them picking it out), give them the booze 5/10/2010 10:24:08 AM |

I would like booze but you can't really register for that. Registries are more for family members that have no idea WTF to get you. Close friends can do fine ignoring the registry, especially if it's returnable just in case. Only time it might be awkward is if you drink at their house a lot, so it'd be like buying yourself something and calling it a present for them. 5/10/2010 11:00:25 AM |
