The new amphitheater may be called The Bud Light Amphitheater.

-1, because Bud Light fucking sucks.
+1, because it'll stick to the teetotalers

"A bit of controversy has broken out over the name of Raleigh's new downtown concert venue -- which the city wants to name the Bud Light Amphitheater in a sponsorship deal that would bring in $1.5 million over five years. But state law prohibits public buildings from having the name of an alcoholic beverage in their moniker. So the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission will have to grant an exception"

Hopefully we can do a poll skew at some point and have it named the Anal Intercourse Amphitheater.

given the public budgetary crisis, they need to make an exception without delay.

seeing how the concrete and sod are both down I would have to assume this decision has been made...

well I was told sod hadn't been put down (it was just what was there before) and they had been talking about the possibilities of grass vs concrete (this was over a week ago, so things might have changed)

walked by this yesterday on the way back from Deep South Bar (btw, holy shit is this place lame)

looks like it will be all concrete and mostly flat for the audience viewing area... also it seems like you could just post up outside of the fence if you really wanted to watch a band and not pay

haha.... Grayson was actually a judge for a "Battle of the Bands" there... didn't have anything else to do, and on some level I enjoy watching terrible bands so I went. first band playing was a nu-metal band from Asheboro (FIGHT FOR A PACIFIST, real clever guys). they had a fucking DJ on stage with them (and he wore a bandana that covered half of his face). shit was awesome/the worst thing i've ever seen

i don't think these guys have heard a new CD since whatever that Limp Bizkit album is called about Hot Dog Flavored Chocolate. kind of blows my mind that people still make music like this... and also that there were people willing to pay $10 to watch it. and there were a lot of those people.

NAY I SAY NAY!!!!

"Bud Light denied naming rights to Raleigh Amphitheater

Posted: 10:34 a.m. today
Updated: 18 minutes ago
The State Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission on Thursday denied the city of Raleigh's request to sell naming rights to a new downtown amphitheater to Anheuser-Busch.

The city had asked the ABC commission for an exemption from state liquor advertising regulations to name the venue after Bud Light. State law bans an alcoholic beverage from being part of the name of a public venue.

Raleigh, Anheuser-Busch and local distributor Harris Wholesale had drafted a proposal to name the the venue the Bud Light Amphitheater in exchange for $300,000 a year over five years. The Bud Light name would have been on a marquee over the amphitheater entrance and included in all print, radio, television and online advertising.

City officials predicted the money could cover most of the operating costs for the $2.5 million, 5,000-seat amphitheater that opened June 4. The city cited an online survey of 1,600 people in which 55 percent supported naming the amphitheater after a beer.

Advocacy groups and Raleigh's Substance Abuse Advisory Commission argued naming the amphitheater for a beer would send the wrong message to children and hurt those dealing with substance abuse problems.

City officials said they would continue to seek other naming rights opportunities for the amphitheater.

"This is a very attractive venue that has great appeal to other potential sponsors," Mayor Charles Meeker said.

pretty bad decision, I doubt it will be easy to find another sponsor willing to shell out $300,000 per year for the next 5 years. I could be wrong, but that seems like a lot of cheese just to have your name attached to some shitty venue in the middle of Raleigh

I could name my kid that very easily and while it would be very, very weird it would be a legitimate name.

Has anyone say in/near the boxes?

I'm going to a show there next month and am trying to decide on seats. There are still a number of boxes open, but strangely all the boxes on one side (stage left) are untouched, while the ones on the other side are being bought.

What's the difference between the two sides, when it comes to the box seats?

http://www.raleigh-amphitheater.com/seating-chart

http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0E00489EE959D181?artistid=841284&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=60

So the boxes behind section 3 are being bought, while the ones behind section 1 are untouched. Whats up with that?

I mean you're going to be there when the music is played. Surely that's the show you're going to. You're probably already eyeing some new cargo shorts.
