anyone building anything cool? This can be Analog or Digital or really anything.
I found a couple breadboard the other day in my closet and figured i might as well start fucking around with something useful in my spare time so i decided to build a couple of fuzz pedals. After like 10 minutes of intense research i was shocked to realize how intense the markup is for something so simple as single or two stage amplifiers and a hand painted metal box.

I don't think they make these anymore, but $400... for that freakin circuit. My roommates have been asking me to build a couple of light switching circuits to run off of audio signals, but i've been too lazy and its much easier to just buy one.
Anyways what you guys got?

i watched a guy at my old work design a guitair distortion pedal called the "dirty sanchez".
it had an FPGA inside and emulated a rotating speaker.
worked in the computer simulation, i never saw it in action. ehe 5/19/2010 6:10:17 PM |

That's pretty cool, no idea how that works. I'm just getting to signal processing classes now, z transform intrigues me. Maybe ill soon know how some of those delay/reverb/modulation ICs work. Everything I know now basically stems from linearity and it will be a nice expansion, but I definitley want to get into some other simple non audio circuits at somepoint in the near future.

so anybody done any etching?
the stripboard shit takes way too much effort. I've found a couple of guides but does anyone have any tips from personal experience? First order of business is buying a laser printer

i used to build a lot of pedals, but i can't remember the site... somewhere there is a big DIY guitar pedal site. There's a guy in Cary who makes a bunch of the PCBs and sells them for cheap.
Do some detective work and you can have easy access to PCBs 7/5/2010 3:04:05 PM |

I cant count how many boards I've etched. If you have specific questions, drop me a PM. 7/5/2010 6:06:32 PM |
