I bet the teacher who thought of that idea for the mural has a huge ego-boner right now.

You achieved your life goal at the age of 13...now what?

"Jordan continues the recent trend of young global adventurers. Earlier this month, 16-year-old Australian Jessica Watson became the youngest person to sail around the globe solo, nonstop and unassisted. Thousands lined Sydney Harbor to cheer as she cruised past the finish line in her pink yacht."

its a bit ego inflating for parents to financially support some of this stuff at such a young age

but at least they're not throwing stupid sweet 16 parties and being ass holes

and good for the kids for wanting to do something that's actually challenging, and completing the task!

he can thank his parents for all the $$$ that this cost them

I'd be more impressed if he saved money from summer/part-time jobs and then attempted his climbs.

The impressive part isn't how it was paid for, dipshit. The kid is 13 fucking years old. You'd be more impressed by a 28 year old working in a cubicle reaching the top of Everest if he paid for it?

i'll admit i'm jealous of the money

i don't begrudge the kids that, their parents are rich, nothing they can do about that

i just don't like the impression that the media sometimes gives, that the kids are doing these things themselves

Anyone can say they'll climb Everest. It's not news until they do it or die trying.

Most of the time these kids get the money from sponsorships. I'm sure Columbia and the like threw money his way to be attached to the youngest kid to ever climb Everest.

looks like one of these kids who is taking on the world is in some trouble...

"Abby Sunderland Feared Lost at Sea
Crew Receives Repeated Distress Signals, Loses Contact With 16-Year-Old Attempting Circumnavigation

Abby Sunderland, 16, who is attempting to become the youngest sailor ever to circumnavigate the globe, was feared lost at sea today after her crew lost contact with her boat.

Abby Sunderland's age sparks debate over how young is too young.
Jeff Casher, an engineer on Sunderland's support team, said two emergency beacons on her boat are now signaling she is in trouble.

Abby's mother, MaryAnne Sunderland, told ABC News that Abby manually activated two beacons around 6 a.m. Pacific Time Thursday.

A beacon designed to automatically go off when it contacts water had not been activated, she said.

Abby was in 20-25 foot waves at the time of last contact, with 35-knot winds, said MaryAnne Sunderland, who is due to give birth at the end of the month. She was shaken but focused on trying to get a rescue effort together.

The closest land to Abby's boat was Reunion Island, which is east of Madagascar. The nearest ship was 400 miles away. Rescuers were trying to contact the ship."

Not even close. And plenty of people die along the way every single year to prove just how wrong you are.

You guys really should all read this interview with him from a few months back and you'll probably get a far different perspective of this kid and also how the trip was funded. Maybe his parents put up some funds, but I highly doubt it. The returns will far outweigh the costs as the interviews and sponsorship dollars start flowing like a river of money.
