10 to 20 years ago aren't funny anymore? I still laugh at The Andy Griffith Show, but over the past few weeks I have seen reruns of Seinfeld, Amen, Cheers, and some other shows that were popular back in the day. I don't laugh at any of them anymore. For some reason I laughed at the 30 second video of Family Guy that was posted in the "RIP Ernie..." thread. I think South Park does a pretty good job making fun of the world and Family Guy is good too. I also like watching Two and a Half Men. Have the perverted minds of the people who write the scripts for tv today caused society to not enjoy good comedy anymore, or was society just that lame in the 80s and 90s?

^^So you don't like any episodes of tv shows that are about pre-2002?

^Seinfeld is good, but I guess once you have seen the same episode 2 million times then it isn't funny anymore.

it's all relative. planes, trains, and automobile still brings the lols every single time to me even though it's from 1987 and "dated" as fuck. the way we get along--or don't get along--with each other will always have humor waiting to be tapped

Seinfeld episodes I've watched umpteen zillion times, but every once in awhile I find a line or thing that's still funny to me.

Never watched Cheers.

Was Amen ever actually funny? I remember it being largely forgettable except for having Sherman Hemsley.

It's kind of a hit-or-miss thing. Many of the jokes and conventions from older sitcoms have been run into the ground, so they're not fresh anymore. Plus the hair, fashion, and clothing can be distracting (for me at least).

I own the series on DVD (and pop discs in regularly) and also still frequently watch the reruns on TV when Im doing stuff around the house during the week. Still laugh a lot at probably 75% of the episodes. (A few get overplayed and the weaker episodes have worn on me after the first million times I've seen them hah).

I know everyone is different though and I can totally understand not thinking certain shows are funny anymore after seeing them a lot. (I use to like the early seasons of Family Guy but sold my DVDs because they became unfunny after not many re-watches). But for some reason, Seinfeld is just golden for me.

As stated in another thread though, 2.5 Men is hardly funny and ridiculously predictable. Even mentioning it in the same conversation as Seinfeld is ludicrous.

The first 2-3 seasons of south park are not at all funny to me now. Early-mid 90s Simpsons is still funny though.

Well my point is that in the late 80s to mid 90s there were shows like Coach, The Cosby Show, and other comedies that I laughed at back in the day, but they aren't as funny to me anymore. Shows seemed to be not quite so perverted back then. Now all the people I work with talk about Family Guy and South Park.

Oh and Wings will always pwn all tv shows except maybe Andy Griffith.

Truth.

Also truth, though I still love Seinfeld and Northern Exposure as well.

Do they make "family sitcoms" anymore? Stuff like Family Matters, Home Improvement, etc. I can't think of any currently on the air.

also i don't see how the cosby show could get stale for anyone (at least the first 4-5 seasons)

I have never seen that entire movie, but I am planning to watch it on my portable DVD player when I leave for Boston in the morning.

^True. It started with The Simpsons being a PG rated cartoon and then came Bevis & Butthead making references to boobs and saying other things that were not G rated. Seinfeld brought in some religious humor and references to sex. Then came South Park which can be really perverted and they make fun of the world. Then came Family Guy which also can be very perverted and has some rated R humor in it too. Then came Two and a Half Men which is a show about 2 brothers and their sex lives. I don't watch every comedy show on tv, but from what I remember back in the day, the 80s and 90s weren't quite as perverted as tv is today. I don't remember Coach, The Cosby Show, Cheers, Home Improvement, etc being as R rated as comedy has become today. I traditionally watch sports, the Discovery/History/NGC/TLC, etc, and South Park. Maybe that has caused me to have a poor sense of humor.

I've got a pretty keen wit

and I've never found Seinfeld terribly funny.

I should clarify...i don't think it's unfunny, but I could never get the fanaticism. Never drew me in.

lol the 1980s were not "back in the day"

there was 30 years of tv prior

and it wasn't quite as sterile as you might think it was

So last night I watched "My Cousin Vinny" on FMC. That is still funny. I guess not all comedy from the 80s and 90s is bad.

Laugh tracks are dead and shows that use them are generally less funny than shows that do not.
