Beer, wine, liquor.... produced in or around North Carolina. What say you?
Duck Rabbit is wonderful. CBC is a great Wake County beer. I forget the name of the NC wine I recently had. ...and how about liquor? I'll admit that I don't know anything about NC distilleries. 5/25/2010 1:31:16 AM |

Catdaddy moonshine has a very unique taste... I remember it being spicy. I haven't tried the Midnight Moon made by the same distiller (Piedmont Distillers).
Red Oak is my go to draft beer. I also just read they are selling it bottled in certain places now, I'll have to check it out in the bottle.

i like almost all of the owl's eye stuff...they sold a blackberry wine at the wine festival that actually tasted very good (not like wild vines or boone's farm stuff, but actual fermented blackberries...it was pretty tasty)

Yep, Biltmore makes some good wines, definitely.
For beer--Red Oak (and their others, Battlefield Bock and Hummin' Bird) are quite good. CBC in Holly Springs (Carolina Pale Ale, Carolina Nut Brown) makes a good product, as does Big Boss. Lots of folks are fans of Highland Brewing Co. in Asheville, I've not had many of their beers but the ones I've tried have been good. Duck Rabbit is excellent, as you said. Lonerider, a new-ish brewery in Raleigh, also makes some fine products--their Shotgun Betty hefeweizen is excellent. 5/25/2010 4:58:04 PM |

Foothills is goddamn fantastic
Right behind Duck-Rabbit for fave in the state.
Then Highland.
and outside of Battlefield Bock, Red Oak is absolutely terrible.

Third vote for Foothills in Winston. Their standard brews are mehh -- Pale Ale, Salem Gold -- but they have some insanely good beers ... their IPA (Hoppyum) and Imperial Stout (Sexual Chocolate) are damn-near perfect creations.
Also love me some Gaelic Ale and Oatmeal Porter from Highland.
Red Oak's Battlefield Bock hits the spot every now and then.
I tend to pass on Natty Greene's stuff, but their Wildflower is a really good summer beer IMO

Looks like you've got to wait a week, at least for the Baltic Porter (which I've never had but have heard good things about).
From Sam's twitter: You want Foothills' Baltic Porter? You know you do... Only @ Sam's, release party Aug. 13th, 11:30am. 8/6/2010 1:39:36 PM |

Yeah I knew about the Baltic Porter release party thing, and I kind of assumed that they would bring hoppyum and torch pilsner bottles that day as well. I wish I could take off work to go out there, but it's just not in the cards. If anyone on here is going and wants to pick me up a bottle I'd make it worth their while. 8/6/2010 1:42:38 PM |
