Do we know what the poll question was? (...not trying to defend FOX. I'm just sayin' that there are different kinds of polls than ones that add up to 100%.)

It could be:
Which of these GOP candidates for president in 2012 would you support? (you may check more than one.)
__ Huckabee
__ Palin
__ Romney

...which wouldn't add up to 100%

I too, read it as Black Palin and assumed FOX news had a secret black female candidate that was going to emerge and win the presidency.

if the more than one option was the case, then they're dumbasses for not using a different type of chart. a circle automatically implies 100%.

they could have done w/o the "back" in front of each name too.

No, it does not. That practice is common, in fact.
The pie chart is simply a visual indication of the distribution of positive responses, after all, the whole point is to compare.

I really hope you're talking about me, because that would prove how much of a partisan fool you are.
I do not like FOX News. I do not watch FOX News. I am not a supporter of any of those candidates, or any Republicans for that matter.

I am simply speaking in defense of the chart. If it were a CNN chart with Democratic candidates my post would have read:

__ Obama
__ Clinton
__ Kucinich

Hey, you can fling shit at your friends as a practical joke, but that doesn't make it right.

Similarly, making a pie chart when you have overlaps (total > 100%) is not correct.

LOL, a pie chart is categorically the wrong chart for the data and the fact that other people use pie charts this way doesn't make Fox News' usage correct, only reason to argue otherwise is because you're a fox news apologist

That list looks like a all star team of people who have made a career out of losing elections. If we can get Hillary and McCain to run again we can nickname this election "2008 Part II - This Time It's Personal".

So, despite the fact that you're wrong -- you'll continue to view things that way.

Exactly. People actually believe that crap, and they vote.

If, without any clear proof, Parks can truly believe that I'm a FOX News apologist,
despite the fact that I truly am not, then what else might he be wrong about? (and he probably votes. )

I don't need to prove that you're a fox news apologist because that's an opinion, fox's incorrect usage of a pie chart for the data is not an opinion and you seem to want to defend them in either wrongness which leads me back to that opinion...

yeah its pretty entertaining.

i tend not to get into political discussions because it seems like when you disagree with someone, youre automatically dubbed an advocate for the other political party.

you know.
since there are only two.

I've seen plenty of pie charts add up to over 100%. Typically, they do show proportions of 100%; however, just like in this case, they can also show overlapping proportions that have a possible summation of the number of categories within the chart (in this case, 300%)

absolutely, but to use a pie chart for that kind of data you must show the overlap in slices for the graph to mean anything other than just being able to read the percentages

Oddly enough the Arlen Specter (D) turned out to come true!!! OMG Faux News has a time machine!! Perhaps they can travel back into the past and become a real news organization.
