"A dog from Northeast Tennessee is winning the hearts of thousands as he recovers at the University of Tennessee Veterinary School.

Riley, a yellow lab pup, came to Knoxville in April after being run over by a car in Washington county. As doctors worked to repair a broken leg, fractured spine, and open head wound, they discovered he had also been shot."

why does the dog having been shot automatically imply abuse? why not a hunting accident?

I am strictly against pet abuse, and enjoy little more than wrestling in the yard with my shepherds. However, if they were this wounded I would not hesitate to put them out of their misery and give them a nice little burial out in the woods.

^^^

If the dog has a good shot at a full recovery and quality of life there's nothing wrong with it. FWIW I'd say that the doctors don't often get to do this type of stuff so they're more likely to do it especially if they can get paid for it.

we had to do that for one of our cats that got shot.

Yesterday I saw the worst thing ever while I was riding with someone. We were going over a bridge and there was a kitten that was run over, the back half of it was flat, but it was still alive and trying to crawl. It was so sad.
