While I don't think I would buy them even if I did have a kid, I think they are kinda funny.

Garbage collection should not be payed with taxes.
Everyone should have to pay (x^2)/10 cents for each pickup, where x is the weight of the garbage.

Seems like they're just trying to cash in on cloth diapers making a comeback.

but they aren't cloth diapers... they are disposable.

people who go for cloth diapers go for them not because they look cool, but for environmental/health reasons.

so while these jean diapers look cool and all, they require even more resources of the planet to make them compared to normal white ones.

are cloth diapers making a comeback? if (and that is a HUGE if) i have kids i am using cloth diapers all the way (i mean i'll probably use a disposable one here and there if we are traveling, etc but for the most part i'm a cloth person. that is what i was raised in).

i didn't know they were "in style" again though.

Well they are making a comeback among families that are trying to be trendy...

Most of the kids I babysit are in disposable diapers. I hate having to change a cloth diaper cause it's a pain in the ass, imo.

why is cloth trendy - cause going green is trendy? cause i thought everyone thought cloth was nasty haha

i think changing cloth is definitely a pain in the ass but worth it. not only cause it is better for the environment but there are health benefits for the kids, too.

i dunno - i just like the idea of cloth better than the plasticy ones. but that has always been my opinion i wouldn't do it to be trendy.

i don't even think i want kids anyway - i have things to do and places to see. my dog holds me back from doing what i want i can't even imagine what a burden a kid is (sorry people with kids - i'm not judging you i'm just saying that i would not be a good parent, so i don't want them)

^^^ yes, they are making a big comeback.

^^ it is not about trendy. trendy people wouldn't want to go through washing shit to look trendy, they would get those disposable jean diapers and other disposable printed diapers to look trendy.

cloth diapers are a big responsibility and take time and initiative (unless you are rich and have a dedicated vietnamese slave washing them). not for those who only care about trends, because this is a difficult and time-consuming 'trend'.

we use cloth diapers for our daughter. worth it, but as i said, take time and effort.

^I mean like trendy in the same way that people want to go all organic and stuff.

I've sat for families and you can pretty much tell what type of diaper is on their kid. They have the hybrid car, the all organic food, 5 recycling bins.
Not saying anything is wrong with that at all, but that's the group of people that they are starting to get big in.

I don't know what I would do when I have kids. I think cost wise, it comes out to be just about the same, you know with washing them and everything. Enviornmental wise it's probably a little bit better with cloth, but then again you are using the water and electricity to wash them...that's better than in a landfill I guess. Convience wise the disposable diapers come out way far ahead.

I've also noticed that the cloth ones have will tend to leak more often. I know you put that kinda plastic or whatever material it is cover over them, but it's really gross when it leaks.

I saw something on one of those "green" shows where they compare the "green" way with the "convenient" way. This episode they went after the disposable/cloth diaper debate about which one was the "greener" way to go. In the end after all the evidence it came out basically to a tie as to which one had the most impact on the environment.

Cloth impact(might be leaving stuff out as its been a while since I saw this show)
Electricity/water to wash

Disposable:
Landfill

I can't remember the other details but it was interesting to see them compare all the pro/cons and it came out basically even.

i just thought the cloth was better for the kid's skin and stuff. less diaper rash or whatever else goes on down there.

that is why i've always wanted to use them

plus diaper pins are cute

^Yeah, that does make sense. I guess if you have a baby with extra sensitive skin cloth would be better.

They had a whole list of shit for the pro/cons and basically they said.. Which ever pros is best for you go with that type. So I guess the skin irritation would sway some, where the convenience of the disposable would sway others?

I watch those "green" channels sometimes just to see whats up. I was flipping through and I heard them talk about that topic and I thought... Hmm this is a "green" show, no way in HELL the disposables have a chance.. I think even they were surprised that it was that close.. I actually gained some respect for that show because they could've packed it in and just said. CLOTH BABY!!! THATS THE FUCKING TRUE GREEN WAY!!!!111

mmmm I'd LOVE to get fresh with Sara Snow.. She was on another show, maybe the same show title, that had chefs prepare 2 meals. One was "organic" and one was "typical" and had 2 people, one tree hugger(Sara Snow) and one mans man(Can't remember who) and made them taste each others meal. That was pretty good too.

Yep. That's a big reason I would use them. Also all the chemicals they put into disposable diapers are nasty as hell. You wouldn't want that stuff getting absorbed into your skin so why would you want it entering your baby's body?

Also, cities still have cloth diaper services. Bag them up and let the service take care of them. From what my friend who uses the one in Raleigh tells me, it costs pretty much the same as disposables and she doesn't have to deal with laundry. Sounds good to me

maybe there is less diaper rash, but if your child does get it you can kiss cloth diapers goodbye. My bff used cloth, and as soon as her little girl got diaper rash it would not go away. Why? Bc the diaper cremes are water resistant and would not wash off the cloth diaper collecting bacteria and causing more rashes. D'oh!!

Now they use 7th Generation disposable bc all the cloth diapers are useless/tainted

Not trying to blame the cloth diaper here, but there's a con for them in the pursuit of greener option. If diaper creme is all your baby will respond to w/ diaper rash, make sure you have disposable on hand or you'll be out of your green investment.

I have no idea what I would do when I have my own carbon copy to take care of...just offering some "don't do this" advice via my friend's personal, and recent, experience.

Personally in that situation I would have used a diaper cream that isn't petroleum based. It seems kind of weird to me if the only reason you're using cloth diapers is to be eco-friendly, and then you're using diaper cream made from mineral oil

I have no idea their train of thought behind what they used and why. I just know the outcome and reluctant reason for the switch.

this is way too much diaper talk for me

WTH?

We use cloth diapers of many different brands, and we also use diaper rash cremes (one is natural made of various plant oils, the other is the standard zinc one), and have had ZERO problems.

Industries make something that can wash off oil/grease/fat/cremes/etc. How? It can dissolve fats and wash them off, since water can't do that.

DETERGENT.

Tell your friends to use some next time they wash the cloth diapers!

strange that I just found a chart stating which creams you can use w/ cloth, which should be used with liners, and which should be avoided all together.

some that aren't recommended or recommended using w/ a liner states a problem as "causing buildup"...which is exactly what happened to them

and I'm SURE they used detergents in their product review. Even with desitin creamy it states "Takes time to wash out of cloth but will with effort." and I know her little girl had very severe diaper rash...so perhaps even with all the detergent in the world b/c they were using so much diaper cream the buildup I described above happened.

http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/diaperrashcreams.htm

it's just a shame my friend didn't find this chart

I plan on using cloth diapers for several reasons.

One is so I never have to listen to that annoying ass noise disposable diapers make ones the baby is in the moving around stage
