I have a Western Digital 160 GB HDD I bought a couple of years ago.........it has all of my music and important shit on it. The problem is that it is all trapped on there.

I run Windows XP 32-bit on a Dell laptop. The weird thing is that the hard drive will be recognized by the computer when I plug it in; I hear the little chime and I can see "Safely Remove Hardware" at the bottom. The hard drive is also recognized in the Device Manager, and it is also recognized in Computer Management, although it comes up as "Disk 1" and I CANNOT assign a drive letter to it.

This problem is seriously driving me fucking crazy and I can't seem to find a single solution on all the forums I've looked at on the internet. If any of you guys can help me, please help me! I'm at my wits end on trying to solve this.
