Quote : | "Apex, N.C. — Police said a shooting occurred at the Super Target in Beaver Creek Commons in Apex on Sunday morning.
The shooter and a Target employee were killed, Apex Police Capt. Ann Stephens said. Authorities identified the employee as a woman, but did not provide her name.
The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot, Stephens said.
"Right now we have no information on the shooter," she said.
It is unknown if the two knew each other or if any words were exchanged before the shots were fired.
One witness reported two loud shots near the front of the store, located at 1201 Beaver Creek Commons Drive, around 11:15 a.m.
"There was no question what it was," Jonathan W. said the shots. He requested that his last name be withheld.
The store was evacuated and nearby businesses were put on lock-down.
Police were interviewing witnesses in a nearby Lowes store early Sunday afternoon.
The Target will be closed for the rest of the day, Stephens said. Lowes is also considering shutting down for the day." |

It's crazy in Apex right now. We were across the street at Home Depot shortly after the shooting, they've pretty much got the whole area blocked off right now. We didn't know what was going on, until the gas station clerk said one of the target employees had come in there and told him. There's supposed to be a news conference at 2. It seems to me this was not random, only 2 shots were fired. But we'll see.
There's a little more information in the N&O article. http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/05/30/507986/apex-police-report-shooting-at.html

Is concealed carry not allowed in Target? I thought you could.
It's not like it would have changed the outcome. two people would still be dead; there would only be a question as to whether the shooter shot himself or some other person took him out. 5/30/2010 3:14:00 PM |

it sounds like the shooter knew who he/she was after. he/she found said person and did what he/she felt like he/she needed to do and then he/she took his/her own life shortly after
i would have had my hand on my piece but prob would have never took it out of my panties.

The person walked into a Target, shot his intended target, walked outside and shot himself in the head. I'm sure a CC would have helped so much. 5/30/2010 3:19:53 PM |

This outrage must be stopped. Our elected officials need reach across the aisle and recognize this threat to our safety.
A law needs to be immediately passed requiring everyone who enters a retail establishment to first pass through a security checkpoint. As most workers previously known as greeters have seen active combat, they will be re-instated into active service and their station shall be known as the Joint Security Command Center (JSCC).
The JSCC should act under the authority of both the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and National Security Agency (NSA), giving these officials full authority to detain any persons who cannot provide proof of citizenship or just look plain shady.

Made the homepage of CNN with this one....gg NC.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/05/30/north.carolina.shooting/index.html?hpt=T2
Quote : | "A man walked into a North Carolina Target store on Sunday and shot an employee he had had a previous relationship with before turning the gun on himself, police said.
"Target is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our team members and the tragic event that took place at our Apex, North Carolina, store shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday morning," Target spokeswoman Brandy Doyle said in a statement. "The store was immediately evacuated following the incident and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement in its investigation."
Apex police spokeswoman Ann Stephens told CNN the victim and suspect had been in a relationship that ended several years ago. She was in the store at her cash register Sunday morning when he came in and shot her, Stephens said. The man died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds, she said.
The store will be closed Sunday "so that we can focus on taking care of our team," Doyle said. Counselors would be made available at the store, she said.
Apex is about 15 miles west of Raleigh, North Carolina. " |

Quote : | "Apex police Capt. Ann Stephens said 59-year-old Guadalupe Rosa was shot to death Sunday inside Super Target where she worked as a cashier. The shooter then killed himself.
At around 11:35 a.m., police responded to reports of an active shooter in Target, at 1201 Beaver Creek Commons Drive, Stephens said.
They found Guadalupe F. Rosas, 59, of 1007 Celandine Drive in Apex, fatally shot in the front of the store.
Witness Justin Ley said he was in the checkout line at the Target when he heard a gunshot. He said Rosas fell beside him and he locked eyes with her gunman.
“I said, 'calm down, calm down.' I must have said it 15 times. I just didn’t want him (shooter) to maybe come after me as well," Ley said. “It just didn’t seem like a situation that anybody would be effective at trying to intervene with.”
Ley said the shooter pointed a handgun at him and ordered everyone to get out of the store.
“It was such a pandemonium at the door that we were all getting shoved into the plate-glass windows," Ley said.
Stephens said the shooter was confronted by officers inside the store.
"Our officers challenged the suspect to put down the handgun. At the time, he turned the weapon on himself and shot and killed himself," Stephens said.
Stephens said Rosas and the shooter had been a relationship that ended in 2005. The two had stayed in contact since then.
Rosas had been working at Target for about two years and is survived by a daughter and two grandchildren.
The shooter has been identified, but authorities are not releasing his name pending notification of next of kin.
The store was evacuated and nearby businesses were put on lock-down following the shooting.
Police interviewed about 40 witnesses in a nearby Lowes store Sunday afternoon. Authorities didn't allow any vehicles to be released from the parking lot until the suspect's and victim's vehicles were identified.
Anyone who saw anything but left Target prior to police's arrival should contact Apex police at 919-362-8661.
Target will be closed for the rest of the day, Stephens said. Lowes reopened around 5 p.m. " |
